After a lovely flurry of new followers recently, it seems like a good time to introduce myself properly, at last! My name is Helen Finlayson Adams and I am a floral designer. I trained in professional floristry in Berlin before moving home to Scotland last year. I now work from my home studio just outside Kinross where recently I have been working on new designs, products and colour palettes. More on that later though! Before becoming a florist, I worked as a fashion designer and also spent several years in event and hospitality management. A background that has served me very well as a floral designer! I launched NELFIN STUDIO this summer after my maternity leave and am looking forward to a busy 2024, surrounded by big bold flowers! #freshflowers #floraldesigner #designerflorist #scottishflorist #kinross #milnathort #perthshire #scotlandbusiness #scottishbusiness #flowerdelivery #eventflowers #editorialflorist

This weekend was a busy one! With Mother's Day orders, a market and a poorly toddler, I was seriously thankful to have my Mum staying with us this weekend. Mimosa happens to be a favourite of hers, so once all my orders were delivered yesterday I made her this wreath. It was a bit of an experiment; I'm hoping it'll dry nicely in wreath form rather than shed yellow pompoms everywhere, but it could still go either way. Even if its life is short though, I still vote it a success. Better to have something wonderful for a short time than not at all. #floraldesign #scottishflorist #mimosa #springwreath #mothersday #internationalwomensday

I'm thrilled to have sourced some Scottish and English flowers for this weekend's bouquets! It's still very early in the British growing season so I wasn't overly hopeful about availability, but I was lucky to find some growers with early blooms. I'll post more details later in the week! Over the next few months, I'm aiming to learn much more about local growers and source as much as possible from Scotland and the rest of the UK. It's such a huge topic that I don't have the capacity to delve into right now, but I will soon! Bouquets for this weekend are still available to order on my website! I actually do use foliage, but I never automatically factor it into a design. In the same way I don't add pink roses to every arrangement, parsley to every recipe or a red scarf to every outfit, sometimes I just don't think it goes. I love to use it when it really adds something to the arrangement and it complements the colour palette.  I remember buying and receiving flowers before I became a florist and I was often disappointed by the flower to foliage ratio. I always wished I could have swapped the greenery for an extra rose or a tulip or two. So that's how I approach my own designs now. It's very much driven by my own perception of value, style and love of big blooms. It does mean that my bouquets tend to be a bit smaller than average as there's no foliage to bulk them out, but they are full of luxurious flowers, beautiful colours and interesting textures. #floraldesign #scottishflorist #ranunculus #boldflorals #contemporaryflowers #flowerdelivery

Mimosa is the flower of International Women's Day. It was chosen by Italian feminists in 1946 because of its strength and tenacity, despite its delicate appearance. In Italy, it is still a popular tradition to give women little sprigs of it on March 8th to mark this special day. I'll be serving up mimosa bouquets in time for both International Women's Day and Mother's Day next month and I'm very excited about it! Not only is it the most fabulous colour, but those little pompoms smell incredible. #mimosa #iwd2024 #iwd #floraldesign #mothersday #scottishflorist #flowerdelivery

I love working with these roses 😍 they were among the flowers at my own wedding and although not a focal point of the arrangements, they bring a wonderful sophistication to any display. I have a real soft spot for those velvety blush petals! #roses #scottishflorist #kinross #floraldesign #flowerdelivery #valentinesflowers

My online shop is now OPEN! (Link in bio and stories) The Valentine’s Collection is available to pre-order, with delivery or collection available on Wednesday February 14th. I’ve kept the selection simple for this year with a choice of two designs: a classic red rose bouquet and a modern arrangement including premium red and blush roses, exotic anthurium and vintage pink carnations. Both designs are available in three sizes so you can choose the perfect one to surprise your Valentine. #valentinesbouquet #kinross #milnathort #floraldesign #flowerdelivery #scottishflorist #florist

I LOVE carnations, but I know how much they split opinion. What's your stance on these frilly blooms? I have very fond childhood memories of Saturday mornings spent at my parents' restaurant, 'helping' my mum to do the flowers. Each of the mismatched wooden tables displayed a single large, fire-engine red carnation in a tall white bud vase. A very minimal aesthetic for the late eighties/early nineties when Laura Ashley and busy floral interiors ruled the roost. I certainly don't think I appreciated the carnations much at the time, but it's almost certainly where my affection for them came from. #floraldesign #scottishflorist #carnations #flowerdelivery #localflorist #perthandkinross #creola #flowersymbolism

I had the loveliest morning in my studio designing my Valentine's bouquets today. I'm not usually much of a traditionalist, but these red roses were calling my name! Voluptuous and velvety and utterly gorgeous. I even managed to get a few photos in glorious sunshine before it started raining again. More details on the way! #flowerdelivery #floraldesign #milnathort #kinross #floristscotland #scottishflorist #valentinesbouquet
