Illustrating the covers for the 10th anniversary edition of the Nevernight trilogy by
@misterkristoff has been an immense honour and, at the same time, one of the greatest responsibilities I have taken on as an artist.
It is a deeply beloved saga, with a passionate and devoted community of readers, and that gave this project a very special weight. But for me, there was also an added emotion: the original covers were illustrated by
@jasonchanart , an artist I have admired since I first began my journey in illustration, and whose work has stayed with me throughout the years.
It was not an easy road. There were several moments when I completely broke down, overwhelmed by the feeling that I might not be capable of doing it justice. I had to redo some of the covers three or four times because I simply did not feel they were good enough, and having such a limited amount of time to complete them made the whole process incredibly stressful and difficult. It was intense, delicate, and deeply challenging work. But it was also an act of complete dedication. I poured the very best of myself into these covers, with the hope of honouring the strength, the darkness, and the beauty of Nevernight.
I want to give very special thanks to my wife
@eme.mars_tattoo , for her unconditional support, for always being there, and for pushing me forward when I no longer believe in myself. None of this would have been possible without her.
And also to
@misterkristoff , for his trust and for his constant support throughout this entire process. My gratitude to him is infinite.
Thanks to
@harpervoyager_uk and
@thelockedlibrary for make it real too!
I hope these covers reflect the care, dedication, and respect with which they were created, and that they can honour, in some small way, the legacy of Nevernight.
Hope you like it 💙🙏
