Here’s an avocado toast to #sundaypunday. And if you don’t like it, you can get out and guac.

The kid was interested in taking a fencing class, so we found one a few blocks away and she’s been going the last few weeks on Tuesday afternoons. But they don’t just give you a pointy stick to thrust towards the other under-10’s right away. You have to earn it. And that means…you guessed it…bringing a pool noodle to a sword fight. Lately, a lot of life has felt like sword-fighting with a pool noodle. A lot of shots at target. A lot energy burned on ducking and weaving. And ultimately, a decent amount of time spent just slapping away with a semi-flaccid weapon. The good news is, even a pool noodle sword is going to hit the mark occasionally. It may not be elegant or precise, but it’s intermittently effective. And this week, well, I’ll take it. Hope you’re entering the weekend carrying an adequate saber for your duel. Peace and love. We made it. ✌️❤️🤺😐

It’s Mental Health Awareness week again. Although, on behalf of all the people who live with anxiety, depression and a parade of other nuanced mental health situations, let me say, “Thanks, we were already aware”. But being aware and doing something about it are two different things, so here’s my yearly PSA for acknowledging how you’re feeling and how it’s affecting you. And taking steps to address it. Basic mental health maintenance isn’t a cure but it makes the day to day manageable. Let’s face it though, the world isn’t getting any easier to process or deal with for any of us, so let’s be reasonable with our goals, huh? Having a Mental Health Awareness Week in 2023 is like having a Chilliness Awareness Week during the Ice Age. But there are things you can do. Anyway, take care of yourselves my friends. This week and every week. Here if you need. ❤️

Hello folks. Updating you live from Brooklyn, New York, where we’re simultaneously celebrating end of week and end of days. Holy mother of fuck, guys, there is some biblical level shit going on out there. The heavens have opened wide and pissed on our great city from a great height. Oooweee. It’s a post Yom Kippur nightmare. And it seems like just yesterday that we were choking on orange smog. Are these just the new seasons of the apocalypse? Crippling heat followed torrential rain, hardly any snow, non-denominational Holiday season, greyness, Memorial Day, Amazon Prime Day and back to hot as balls? The whole climate change thing feels very effing real this week. Hope you can all shake off your umbrellas and recharge in a warm, dry place this weekend. Peace, love and clearing to intermittent drizzle. We made it. ✌️❤️☔️😐

When we were young and recent arrivals in Colorado, we couldn’t wait see a concert at the spectacular open air amphitheater, Red Rocks. We eagerly bought tickets to see The Killers, circa Sam’s Town, and planned our trip. Leaving work early and laden with guilt and a picnic cooler, we drove over, climbed a ridiculous number of stairs and prepared to have our hiking socks rocked off. The sun set to the strains of a forgettable opening act and the anticipation grew. After hours of waiting, the stage lights came up to reveal the rockstar silhouettes of Brandon Flowers and company. And then they stopped abruptly halfway through their second song. Nothing was happening. Then someone introduced to the disgruntled crowd as a “doctor” announced that Mr Flowers would be unable to finish the show due to a throat complaint or something and we were all excused. A few hours of angry, congested concert traffic later, we returned home, smelling like weed and disappointment. It’s only years later that I can appreciate that this was ultimately a more memorable experience than just seeing another rock show. Some weeks don’t go exactly as planned. Unforeseen obstacles and cancellations. Performance complications. Congestion. But if you’re lucky, you open up your eager eyes and realize there were a couple of sparks of inspiration too. Call me Mr Brightside. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Wishing you all peace, love and maybe even an extra encore this weekend. We made it. ❤️✌️💐😐
