Kodoku is an ongoing project made in Tokyo between 2019 and 2025.
Shot in the most populated city in the world, these images explore fleeting moments of solitude, stillness, and presence among strangers.
Influenced by Saul Leiter’s street photography and Gerhard Richter’s blurred paintings, I work with reflections, scratched glass, and mirrors to create layered, abstract portraits — quiet images made without permission, but with deep respect.
Unlike my other projects built on relationships, Kodoku is about witnessing, not knowing. About solitude, not isolation.
