Stress at work is inevitable, but how you respond in the moment matters.
ㅤ
It can be simple and quick. A small gesture like gently folding your arms or placing a hand on your body, paired with a few supportive words, can help regulate your nervous system right away.
You can say something like, “This is hard. I feel overwhelmed. I’m here for you.”
ㅤ
You can do this in a meeting, while reading a stressful email, or after making a mistake. These brief check-ins support you in staying clear, learning from challenges, and moving forward with more steadiness.
ㅤ
You don’t need long practices to feel the impact. Small moments, repeated throughout the day, can reduce burnout, support productivity, and strengthen how you show up at work.
ㅤ
✨ Try it today: the next time stress arises, offer yourself one small gesture of support and a kind phrase.

Self-compassion isn’t about making the pain go away. It’s about not abandoning ourselves when it’s here.
ㅤ
Take a moment. Place a hand on your heart, soften your breath, and remind yourself: “I’m here.”

A meaningful endorsement ahead of Gilt Free’s release:
“In Gilt Free, Keren Eldad offers a powerful invitation to step out of the gilded cages we often build for ourselves in the pursuit of success. With insight, candor, and compassion, she reveals how overachievement can quietly disconnect us from our true selves - and how reclaiming honesty, integrity, and self-belonging can lead to a far more meaningful life.”
— Kristin Neff
Hearing this from Kristin, whose work has deeply shaped the field of self-compassion, feels incredibly meaningful.
Gilt Free will be out in the world in 17 days. You can pre-order the book on Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Walmart and Bookshop in my bio.

Meet @neffselfcompassion 💚 A member of our Advisory Board, Kristin is a self-compassion pioneer, researcher and best-selling author. This month, she is challenging us to practice self-compassion and reminds us that it is a necessity, not a luxury. We are so grateful to you, Kristin!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder to take a moment for ourselves when we're stressed. Our natural threat response can often lead to fight (self-criticism), flight (isolation), and freeze (rumination). But self-compassion offers a powerful antidote.
By practicing kindness, mindfulness, and connecting with our shared humanity, we downregulate the threat system and activate the care system (the tend and befriend response), reducing stress and fostering resilience.
ㅤ
Research shows that this shift into self-compassion can lower cortisol levels and increase heart rate variability, making us less defensive, calmer, and more balanced.
ㅤ
This month, let’s prioritize mental well-being and show ourselves the kindness we need. Take a pause, place your hand on your heart, and remind yourself that you are worthy of care and compassion.

Self-compassion has two expressions: tender and fierce and they can be aimed inward and outward.
ㅤ
Tender self-compassion helps us soften. It allows us to accept ourselves, our emotions, and the realities of the external world with gentleness and understanding.
ㅤ
Fierce self-compassion helps us take action. It gives us the strength to say no, to set boundaries, to stand up for ourselves or others, and to make healthy changes when needed.
ㅤ
Both energies are essential. Sometimes compassion means holding ourselves with care, and sometimes it means courageously taking a stand.
