Back in the studio recording with @todmorrisey@nedfolklore@tobias_berblinger . I know it’s crazy times y’all and what a gift to be able to play music with friends, share some laughs and find moments of joy in these turbulent times, I’m grateful.
We tracked basics onto 2” tape for 3 new songs. If you want to hear a glimpse, turn on your sound. Thanks to @kyle.patrick.cregan for engineering the session, manning the board and bringing us some pips doughnuts, chai and coffee to fuel us in the afternoon, what a perk!
Shout out to @singingsandspdx for letting us rehearse in the evenings in prep for this session and for having the recording studio for musicians, thank you Nate! We really appreciate the support for the local Portland music community.

Lewi Longmire is an inductee of the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and a longtime friend and favorite of The Gov Cup. His roster of musical brilliance includes the likes of Kassi Valazza, TK & The Holy-Know Nothings, and John Craigie. Lewi Longmire and The Left Coast Roasters owes much to the American tradition of good songs played with high energy, deep roots, and an unpretentious sense of fun. Their sound finds the connection between the basement feel of The Band, the raspy blue-eyed soul of Joe Cocker, the desert space of Giant Sand, the “without a net” deep space improvisations of the San Francisco ballrooms, the punk abandon of The Stooges and the quiet contemplation of Neil Young playing solo.
Joining Lewi is a lineup of Portland greats - Ned Folkerth on drums and vocals (Kassi Valazza), Bill Rudolph on bass and vocals (Crackpots and Little Sue), Dan Eccles on guitar (Fernando).
I highly recommend a visit to the American Civil War Donut Museum. Too much valuable information to absorb in one day. Get the 3 day family pass to get the most out of your visit.
Welp, most of my photos from The Landmark were lost years ago. Here's a few from one of Mike Coykedall's occasional Syd Barrett birthday nights. I was sad Mike was out of town for the final hurrah, but maybe that would have been too much. Because running into him there was always a high point.
I remember having a great show there with our Cajun peeps up from Louisiana. Maybe cuz it felt like dancers jammed into the tiny front room of a house... Which it was. Sayonara Landmark Saloon.
One of my favorite stickers, given to me by my colleague in Puerto Rico. It's just a sticker, but it is loaded with joy and kindness. Just like my coworkers in PR. They're the best.
Happy Birthday to my favorite human in the whole dang world. You're not just the nerve center of our day to day. Not just a rock for me and countless other folks. Not just empathetic ears and a wise heart and a real pretty face. You're also a hoot, a delight, and a goddamn dreamboat. Love you!!!
