Selfie van de Ziel part III untill july 5. MY INNER MONSTER by Maria Escapenter. Maria invites you to enter their inner world. Through the presentation of objects, their work offers access to personal experiences, including diaries from the period of their move from Spain to Amsterdam. These provide an intimate insight into their thoughts and memories. ‘’My Inner Monster is a series of self-portraits of a hidden being that lives within me - the true self that has adapted its identity to every situation, context, and expectation, until it became distorted.’’ In A Daily Choice, a distorted body appears before a mirror, a sculptural installation that reflects on the ritual of self-presentation and the daily evaluation of our appearance. The work changes form weekly through shifting outfits, emphasizing the fluidity of identity. With Accumulated Self, Maria manifests the self as a sculpture composed of personal belongings, in which habits, perspectives, and aspects of identity take on material form. Maria Escarpenter (Spain, 1999) is a multidisciplinary artist and performer based in Amsterdam. Their work is rooted in personal history and explores, through storytelling, performance, and visual language, the complexity of identity and social structures. By taking vulnerability as a starting point, they create spaces for connection, transformation, and shared experience. Selfie van de Ziel Part III ARON VELLEKOOP LEÓN - MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN
When confronted with the request to create a “selfie of the soul,” Aron feels an immediate, instinctive urge to conceal rather than reveal himself. This impulse toward self-concealment has long defined his way of moving through the world. Shaped by experiences in his early, formative years, he developed a tendency to adapt to situattions and endure circumstances, rather than to assert or fully express himself against whatever elements or audiences he faced. Over time, he came to take a quiet pride in this position - being the silent observer.
Yet it is precisely this lifelong habit of holding back that now compels him to step beyond it. For this exhibition Aron leans into the discomfort and vulnerability of who we are and what we allow the world to see. It is not always deliberate, nor is it entirely accidental. Rather, what we show is something instinctive - a subtle, persistent urge to guard the most fragile parts of ourselves. Even in moments of honesty, something remains withheld.
Working on this new body of work has become an act of searching inward. It has revealed to Aron how deeply the act of painting is tied to the simultaneous acts of concealing and revealing his inner world.
Aron (Fuerteventura, Spain 1987) is a Dutch/Spanish visual artist, currently living and working in Amsterdam. His work consists of abstractions of how we interact with one another. He portrays this almost as if we’re cells under a microscope, catching behaviour in its primal ways. Expressing and revealing in its simplicity.

The work explores change, transition, migration and transformation, suggesting that as we grow and leave, little remains constant except our dreams - and our internal landscapes, which is, not by coincidence, the title of my exhibition.
Transit /Cosmos is just one of my 10 pieces at my show “Interior Landscapes”. In the pictures you can see some more (“The mountain of the artist” and “Island”, among others).

Where the model long served as the point of departure, this fifth edition broadens that starting point once again. The works move between figuration and abstraction, between observation and imagination.
The exhibition demonstrates how diverse visions can coexist without losing their autonomy. Each work speaks in its own tone, use of materials, and rhythm. Together, they form a visual composition in which difference is not a contradiction, but a reinforcing element.
Through a wide range of techniques and materials — including canvas, paper, paint, chalk, ink, plexiglass, and collage — the multiplicity of expression is made tangible.
It’s about expressive variety is a plea for artistic freedom and for trusting one’s own signature style.

BETWEEN BIRDS AND BUTTERFLIES KIMS.KIND.CREATIONS
Amerens Hedwich, werkend onder de naam kims.kind.creations, geeft afgedankte materialen een nieuw, eigenzinnig leven. Met haar motto “Nothing new but the glue” transformeert ze oude boeken en gevonden voorwerpen tot fragiele, karaktervolle vogelfiguren.
“Ik bouw met karton en papier. Ik heb wel enigszins een idee, maar verras mezelf nog steeds tijdens het maken. Mijn atelier staat vol doosjes met rommeltjes, allemaal even bruikbaar voor de kleinste details. Zo werd een schaakstuk een hoed en gebruik ik de spelden van mijn moeder als ogen.”
Haar werk ontstaat intuïtief: vormen groeien zonder vastomlijnd plan. Elk element draagt een verleden met zich mee en krijgt tegelijk een nieuwe ziel.
Tussen kwetsbaarheid en speelsheid, tussen herinnering en vernieuwing, bewegen haar figuren zich in een wereld between birds and butterflies; licht, poëtisch en vol stille verhalen.

De 33e editie van Open Ateliers Amsterdam-Noord op 30 & 31 mei 2026 wordt een weekend waarin beeldend kunstenaars, samen met lokale partners, routes, tentoonstellingen, workshops, muziek en andere activiteiten organiseren in hun eigen buurt.
Schilderkunst en sculptuur, ambacht en experiment, installaties, tekeningen, objecten en nieuwe ideeën. Van traditionele werkplaatsen tot hedendaagse kunst op onverwachte plekken, verspreid door heel Noord.
Om dit allemaal zichtbaar te maken en de kunst in Noord te blijven versterken, hebben we alle kunstenaars uit Noord nodig.

Waar het model lange tijd het vertrekpunt vormde, wordt dit uitgangspunt in de vijfde editie opnieuw verbreed. De werken bewegen zich tussen figuratie en abstractie, tussen waarneming en verbeelding.
De tentoonstelling laat zien hoe uiteenlopende visies naast elkaar kunnen bestaan zonder hun autonomie te verliezen. Ieder werk spreekt in een eigen toon, materiaalgebruik en ritme. Samen vormen ze een visuele compositie waarin verschil geen tegenstelling is, maar een versterkend element.
Met uiteenlopende technieken en materialen — zoals doek, papier, verf, krijt, inkt, plexiglas en collage — wordt de veelvormigheid van expressie tastbaar gemaakt
It’s about expressive variety is een pleidooi voor artistieke vrijheid en het vertrouwen in het eigen handschrift.
