Dear friends and allies,
As you all know we have been fighting for water, breaks, right to medical attention and an emergency plan in the fields of North Carolina for a while. Luke Farley our Labor Commissioner has ignored our requests and suggestions for improving worker protections, not only that but he has created a majority corporate advisory council on Heat. This means he is looking more to protect corporate interests than workers' lives. This is why we are asking all denomination churches from now until Nov. 1st (Day of the Dead/Spirits) to hold vigils all over the state and pray not only for those workers who have died and their loved one's but those in power who are refusing to address the issue in a series manner. All worker lives and safety should be set as a priority before elevator fotos, voluntary compliance, credits for citations to employers and informal conferences.
At the end of the day, “Advisory councils don’t stop deaths. Water, shade, and enforceable breaks do.”
