Oh what “A Night of Tradition and North Carolina Seafood” at Blackbeard’s Grill in Beaufort is in the books. It was the ultimate celebration of Real Local Seafood coming together to recognize the efforts of Commercial Fishermen, the Culinary magic by Chef Becky Rose, and of course the outstanding natural resources of North Carolina’s water.
Guests and Fishermen mingled and enjoyed a bounty of a buffet - featuring oysters on the half shell, crab dip, fried shrimp, steamed shrimp, crab-stuffed flounder, fried flounder, steamed whole crabs, and sides of hushpuppies, slaw, sauteed green beans, corn, and potatoes. Delicious desserts include key lime pie, Down East lemon pie, and mini chocolate chip cannolis.
Also featured was a shucking station of fresh “Marsh Hippie” oysters from Topsail Sound, harvested and shucked by The Oyster Girl, Morgan Kline.
The theme of the evening - tradition and heritage of North Carolina’s commercial fishermen, who provide food for consumers, and the threat their industry is under. Continuing their way of life takes all North Carolinian’s fighting for their rights and access to fresh, flavorful, real, local North Carolina seafood. Because if the fishermen go away, the seafood markets, restaurants and YOUR access goes away too.
The dinner was a fundraiser for NC Catch, whose mission is to educate the public about North Carolina seafood and the importance of small, commercial fishermen. Please help continue to support our cause through fundraising events like this one.
