Did you know all 4 NCSD middle schools are teaching Science this spring by utilizing their own natural surroundings right on campus? At Alder Creek Middle School, 7th graders are putting their knowledge of invasive species into practice by removing ivy from a wooded area near the school stadium. Thanks to Ecology in Classrooms & Outdoors (ECO) for their grant partnership to make these hands-on lessons happen! #ProudToBeNCSD

Who says you need fancy instruments for a fun musical assembly? Special thanks to Kids Junk Orchestra, who helped Seth Lewelling Elementary School students boogie while banging on bongos, buckets, and even pots and pans this afternoon! Along the way, kids learned about different styles of music from blues to jazz to hip hop…and everything in between! #ProudToBeNCSD

Third grade students at Happy Valley Elementary were all smiles as they welcomed a special visit from members of the Adrienne C. Nelson football team! Inside the classroom, students teamed up with players for math games focused on problem-solving and teamwork before taking on a paper chain challenge to see which group could create the longest chain. After the competition, students and players wrapped up the visit with time together on the playground!

Alder Creek, Happy Valley, Rock Creek, and Rowe came together for an action-packed district track meet! These student-athletes ran, jumped, and threw their hearts out, resulting in countless personal best performances. Nelson’s Asian & Pacific Islander Student Union kicked off AAPI History Month with a bang, transforming the gym into a vibrant stage for culture and community. The energy hit a high note early with a high-octane performance by the Summit Wushu Academy, featuring talented students from Nelson, Rex Putnam, and Happy Valley Middle School. These young martial artists "wowed" the audience with an athletic display of Wushu, the art form commonly known as Kungfu. Twisting, leaping, and slicing through the air with mock swords, the performers balanced raw power and speed with a level of grace and precision that left the crowd breathless. The rhythm shifted from the physical to the lyrical as Nelson’s choir took center stage for a moving rendition of the New Zealand Māori classic, "E Te Iwi E." Stripped back and soulful, the performance was accompanied only by the steady strumming of two guitars. The entire group moved in a coordinated dance as individual members stepped forward to lead verses that resonated in the song’s powerful call for unity, identity, and the collective strength of people. Rounding out the celebration of togetherness, members of Nelson’s North African Student Union joined the festivities to showcase the stunning diversity of their own cultures. The gym floor turned into a runway for a fashion show that dazzled the senses, featuring traditional dresses crafted from radiant fabrics and adorned with intricate, ornate embroidery. It was a visual testament to the assembly’s core message: while our traditions may vary, there is a beautiful, common thread in the pride we take in our cultural roots. #ProudToBeNCSD #proudtobencsd

Lace up those racing shoes—it’s the final stretch of the middle school track season! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ In the final week of the regular season, Rock Creek Middle School and Rowe Middle School took to the track yesterday for an exciting matchup. Up next, Happy Valley Middle School will compete against Alder Creek Middle School this afternoon! Now, the countdown to the district track meet is on. All four NCSD middle schools will come together on May 7. Congratulations to all the athletes on a great season!
