Finally happy to share this commissioned project from last year for ICBC and the Nerdearla event.
The piece was created using AI for about 95% of the production. The globe was built in Houdini because the animation, especially the blue particles, couldn’t be created with generative tools.
The music and sound design were also generated using AI.
After several projects working with AI, here are a few thoughts:
- It’s a mistake to think this technology will replace everything we know; instead, it expands and complements existing tools.
- It’s a mistake to think that AI is just about pressing a button or sending a single prompt. Simple, low-demand work may be fast and inexpensive, but that’s only part of the story.
- Stage-based projects involving styleframes, story development, animatics, previs... and multiple feedback rounds can sometimes take even longer with AI than with traditional workflows.
- Achieving high resolutions with dense, consistent pixel quality is still challenging for AI.
- Industrial products with complex morphologies remain very difficult for AI in terms of consistency.
- Iterating styleframes with AI is wonderful.
- AI tools are already part of everyday practice.
