What an incredible turnout for Mark Hogancampās Resilience show at One Mile Gallery in Kingston, NY. Itās been almost a decade since returning to see Mark and catch up with great friends. Endless thanks to Janet Hicks for carrying the torch of continued support and promotion providing a safe space for Mark to share his world. Prints available directly through the gallery site. I was here in Carnac, France to document both performances of Kali Maloneās compositions part of Stephen OāMalleyās āYou Originā project.
The (second) show was cancelled due to opposition from far-right Catholic integralists. A sad night indeed.
Her Statement below:
Art and music are powerful, essential, and vital because they exist in unexplainable ways, not entirely understandable, nor should they be.
Like spirituality, art and music's function is to raise questions and lead new paths of comprehension and transcendence. Meditation through art is a way to go beyond your own perceptual capacity, leading to new possibilities of understanding and sensitivity. It's the role of art to invigorate our minds and hearts, to inspire new ways of perceiving, being, and connecting with the world by elevating our spirit and emotional intellect.
It is always with deep respect and honor which I enter churches to perform in, where I openly and kindly meet people of all faiths, so we can come together to present moving concerts of my music.
We are very sad and angered that my planned concert on Saturday night was forcibly cancelled due to protests from far-right Catholic integralists. This demonstration has only strengthen my artistic vision and motivations, and I will certainly continue to perform my music in churches throughout the world.
We still have the strong and beautiful memory of my organ & choral performance from Friday night with Macadam Ensemble, captured here by @naugle | @rdstudios.mov
