Louis advises students not to procrastinate. “Always stay on top of your work so you can fully enjoy your high school experience.” The Leroy Greene Academy senior plans to attend American River College, transfer to UCLA and major in Managerial Economics.
Congratulations to the 14 Inderkum High School seniors who are graduating with both their high school diplomas and associate degrees. On Monday, those seniors and their families celebrated at the CECA graduation celebration at the newly opened ARC STEAM Center.

Congratulations class of 2026! Today, we feature Inderkum High School senior Hanna. Hanna will attend UC Santa Cruz and major in Sociology to pursue a career as a Criminal Investigator. She advises incoming freshmen to try and get involved as much as possible because four years will go by quickly.
Superintendent Dr. Robyn Castillo congratulated the students who were honored during the Multilingual Celebration held Thursday, May 14, at Inderkum High School. Students were recognized for earning the State Seal of Biliteracy or for achieving English learner reclassification.
This school year, 264 students were reclassified and 217 earned the State Seal of Biliteracy! The State Seal of Biliteracy signifies that a student is biliterate in English and one or more other languages. Students who are reclassified have met all requirements to demonstrate English proficiency and are no longer classified as English learners.
Students at Jefferson School show off their smarts each year at the Jefferson School Trivia Competition.
Hosted by library media technician Ashwani Singh, fourth through sixth graders compete for a trophy and prizes. "It's just a fun way of learning, and I decided to do it to engage students in the library," Singh said.

NUSD kicked off its 2026-27 early learners literacy initiative with celebratory assemblies districtwide. At Bannon Creek and Heron schools, award-winning author Minh Lê read from his book, "Drawn Together," and shared the special meaning behind its illustrations with students.
The event is part of the district's ongoing Read to Succeed efforts. Special thanks to "Good Day Sacramento" for covering the Heron assembly on live TV.

Known for her commitment to families and students, Amanda Lie, a teacher at H. Allen Hight Elementary School, has earned the 2026 NUSD Teacher of the Year award. Superintendent Robyn Castillo and district leaders surprised Lie with the announcement Thursday afternoon.
"I love teaching preschool specifically because little tiny things are actually big huge things for us," Lie said of the honor. "It’s a more fulfilling job than I can imagine any other job being."
Lie will now represent NUSD as a candidate for the 2026 California Teacher of the Year award.

Student filmmakers from Inderkum High School are raising awareness of key issues while taking home top prizes from C-SPAN.
Tanaya and Juhie won first prize in the 2026 C-SPAN StudentCam contest for their documentary on Dreamers, American Dream Deferred. Deven and Adi were honored with second prize for their documentary Life, Liberty, and Left Behind: The Battle After Service.
C-SPAN representatives recognized the two teams during a ceremony in the high school’s theater. Following a screening of the short documentaries and a filmmaker Q&A, the teams were awarded $3,000 for first place and $1,500 for second place.
