The National Museum of the Philippines, together with the International Council of Museums and all other museums here in the Philippines and around the world, is excited to celebrate #IMD2026! With this year’s theme of, “𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦𝐬 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝,” the NMP remains steadfast in its commitment to act as bridges across cultural, social, and geopolitical divides. With that said, is excited to launch two major initiatives: 👉 𝐍𝐌𝐏 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 – a personal travel record that encourages visitors to explore and collect memories from all NMP Component Museums nationwide. 👉 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐨 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 – a mobile app designed to enhance accessibility and enrich every museum visit with personalized guided information and features. Beyond these, the NMP is also rolling out a series of 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬, 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 throughout the day, where everyone is welcome to join! This global event aims to raise awareness about threatened wildlife and the need to protect biodiversity. The Philippine flora is among the richest in the world, with many species found nowhere else. But this remarkable diversity faces serious threats from deforestation, habitat conversion, poaching, and other human-driven pressures. To understand the scale of what’s at risk, scientists carefully assess and classify threatened plants under two critical frameworks: the IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants (global) and the DENR Administrative Order No. 2026- 20 or the Updated National List of Threatened Philippine Plants and their categories (local). Newly described species are evaluated based on geographic range, population size, and population decline/increase following the IUCN Red List categories. Together, they serve as an essential scientific guidance for conservation planning and action. Every plant is a living narrative. They are not just passive green backdrops but intricate, communicative beings that reveal critical information about our changing environment.
