ICWB – A Cultural Dialogue Through Sasirangan
ICWB was conceived as a curated encounter between heritage and contemporary design — introducing Sasirangan, the distinguished textile of Tanah Laut, to the refined creative landscape of Antwerp.
More than a presentation, it was a cultural dialogue.
Sasirangan, traditionally hand-crafted and rich in symbolic meaning, carries a quiet sophistication rooted in Indonesian history. Through thoughtful reinterpretation by emerging and established designers, the textile was elevated within a modern fashion context — demonstrating its relevance beyond origin, beyond geography.
Day 1 - Heritage in Contemporary Form
The opening evening set the tone with institutional presence and international vision, reinforcing the importance of cultural exchange between Indonesia and Belgium.
On the runway, Sasirangan evolved.
Structured silhouettes met fluid draping.
Traditional motifs encountered contemporary tailoring.
Handcrafted surfaces were framed within modern aesthetics.
Designers presented collections that respected origin while embracing innovation — allowing Sasirangan to move confidently within a European fashion dialogue.
The atmosphere was immersive yet refined, supported by carefully curated performances, artistic direction, and seamless production.
Day 2 - Craftsmanship in Focus
The second day shifted toward tactile engagement.
The Dekranasda Tanah Laut presentation space offered a closer look at Sasirangan’s artisanal process - emphasizing the craftsmanship, time, and precision behind each piece. Designer and collective booths allowed for meaningful conversations around materiality, sustainability, and cross-cultural collaboration.
Workshops and live artistic activations reinforced a central message: luxury begins with craftsmanship.
Culinary elements and live music further enriched the experience, creating a layered sensory environment where culture was not only observed, but experienced.
ICWB was not simply a showcase. It was a statement: that heritage textules, when treated with intention and respect, belong on the global stage.
