To our Native relatives: You are valued. Your well-being matters. And you don’t have to move through this season alone. Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that healing is not one-size-fits-all. For many of us, it lives in culture, in ceremony, and in the comfort of spaces where we don't have to explain ourselves to be understood. There is no wrong way to take care of yourself. Through tradition, rest, movement, treatment, or simply a conversation that feels safe, you deserve support that sees all of who you are. Hear more from Dr. Autumn BlackDeer (Cheyenne) and other Native experts in our session, "Member Education Sessions: Mental Health and Wellness." 🔗 in bio #MentalHealthAwareness #NativeHealing #CultureIsMedicine #GenerationalHealing #IndigenousMentalHealth #MentalHealth #Native #Indigenous #WeAreIndigenous #NativeGiving

AlexAnna Salmon (Yup’ik and Aleut) was raised in the village of Igiugig, Alaska, and is now President of the Igiugig Village Council. In 2008, AlexAnna graduated from Dartmouth College with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Native American Studies and Anthropology. After graduating, she returned to work for the Igiugig Tribal Village Council, where she was elected President and serves as a member of the Igiugig Native Corporation board, which is responsible for the stewardship of 66,000 tribal acres. In her work as President of the Igiugig Village Council, AlexAnna has been a driving force behind the community’s efforts to generate its own energy from renewable sources. In 2015, she was invited to President Obama’s roundtable discussion with Alaska Native leaders and was praised by Sen. Dan Sullivan in 2017 on the Senate floor for helping strengthen her community and making it an incredible place to live. AlexAnna loves raising her kids in the subsistence way of life, revitalizing Indigenous languages, and traveling. 🎙 Hear from AlexAnna during our next Member Education Session, when she will discuss how the philanthropic sector can effectively support Alaska Natives as well as deepen understandings of the historical context that has shaped these communities. Register today ➡️ bit.ly/napmember37 (link in bio) #Philanthropy #NativePhilanthropy #WeAreIndigenous #Native #Indigenous #NativeGiving #MembershipEducationSessions #TribalCommunities #Tribal #NativeNations #LandStewardship #Alaska #AlaskaNative

📣 The Indigenous Tomorrows Fund (ITF) opens for applications on May 20, 2026! Native youth are cultivating thriving communities. We're honored to invite you into what they're growing. Over the past year, Native youth leaders aged 14–24 came together through listening sessions, visioning circles, and participatory design experiences to answer a shared question: What do you believe your community needs to thrive? Their dreams and visions author this fund. In 2026, ITF will move $1,650,000 to Native-led and Native-serving organizations across the U.S. and its territories — offering three tiers of grants: $25K, $65K, and $100K, with every funding decision made by Native youth. We will invest in five youth-authored bundles of community thriving: ✨ Maintaining the Life Cycle of Balance: Culture, ceremony, and language as sovereignty. Youth as culture carriers. ✨ Intergenerational Knowledge & Relationships: Youth, adults, and Elders woven together. Building strong relationships is the work. ✨ Healing: Holistic, culturally informed care that nourishes the whole self — body, mind, and spirit. ✨ Nurturing That Which Nourishes Us: Indigenous foodways, lands, and waters as one living system. Youth learning how to care for and protect the system. ✨ Building Power & Activating Abundance: Sovereignty, leadership, and the resources Native communities need to thrive. We welcome applications from Native-led and Native-serving 501c3 organizations, Tribal Nations-affiliated initiatives, and fiscally sponsored projects of 501c3 organizations, where Native youth, especially those under 18, are central to the work you do. For more information about the Indigenous Tomorrows Fund 2026 grant cycle, read the full Request for Proposals: nativephilanthropy.org/blog/upcoming-itf26 (link in bio). The Indigenous Tomorrows Fund is a powerful collaboration between Native Americans in Philanthropy and our funder partners: Newman’s Own Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Wellspring Philanthropic Fund, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and private donors. #IndigenousTomorrowsFund #SeventhGeneration #Indigenous #Native #Philanthropy #NativeGiving #TransformingPhilanthropy

Did you know that both AAPIP and NAP were born out of the same moment? At the 1989 Council on Foundations Conference, a small group of Native and AANHPI philanthropic leaders gathered over a meal and realized they couldn’t even fill a table of ten. That moment of reflection sparked the founding of two community-focused organizations committed to visibility, solidarity, and justice in philanthropy. This #AANHPIHeritageMonth, we’re proud to uplift our friends and longtime partners at Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy, who continue to lead with purpose and heart. For 35 years, AAPIP has created space for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities in philanthropy—mobilizing resources, shifting narratives, and building toward a more just and equitable future. Learn, celebrate, and support their work ➡️ aapip.org (link in bio) @aapip_org #AANHPI #AAPIHeritageMonth #AAPI #IndigenousSolidarity #OurSharedHeritage #PacificIslander #RacialSolidarity #Philanthropy #NativePhilanthropy #NativeHawaiian #API

What does it look like when young Indigenous leaders are trusted with real decision-making power? Our third cohort of Native Youth Grantmakers recently spent an incredible week at the Native Americans in Philanthropy 2026 Annual Conference in Riverside, CA, offering them the opportunity to learn, connect, lead, and also contribute directly to the future of the Indigenous Tomorrows Fund. Cohort member Katie Lynch spoke at the Interwoven Futures Breakfast and captured what this work is really about: "Indigenous communities have been managing complex, interdependent systems of reciprocity long before grant cycles existed. When you find the flexibility, when you ask what young people need and sit with the answer, when you research something because it is alive and growing rather than because it gets a regrant, this is where philanthropy becomes a genuine partner in this work." We're proud to walk alongside this cohort. Read their story on the NAP blog. ➡️ Link in bio. #NYG #NativeYouthGrantmakers #SeventhGeneration #NativeGiving #NativePhilanthropy #Philanthropy #NAPCON #NAPCON26 #NAPCON2026 #IndigenousPhilanthropy #IndigenousTomorrowsFund #NativeLed #TransformingPhilanthropy #IndigenizePhilanthropy

May 5 is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives. This post offers a starting point to understanding the MMIWR crisis, but this is just the beginning. Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people face alarmingly high rates of violence and disappearance, and yet, their stories are too often ignored or erased. Of the 5,712 reported cases of MMIWR in the United States, only 116 were included in the Department of Justice database. That's a striking number that speaks directly to the underfunding of ethical data collection, Tribal Law Enforcement, and advocacy organizations — all areas where philanthropy can act. We encourage you to dive deeper, uplift Indigenous-led organizations, and take action, whether by amplifying voices, supporting grassroots efforts, or educating your own communities. If you need support or want to learn more and take action, visit the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (@niwrc ) at niwrc.org/mmiwr-awareness (link in bio). #MMIW #MMIWG #MMIWG2S #MMIWR #NoMoreStolenSisters #IndigenousJustice #NativeWomen #MMIWAwarenessDay #WeAreIndigenous #Native #Indigenous

“Our culture is the intervention. Our culture is the treatment.” – Dr. Autumn Asher Blackdeer (Cheyenne) @drblackdeer Mental health in Native communities is deeply shaped by generations of historical and ongoing trauma—from forced relocation to boarding schools to the suppression of language, culture, and identity. But just as trauma can be passed down, so can healing. Our traditions, our stories, our languages, and our ceremonies carry knowledge that has sustained our people for generations. As Dr. Autumn Asher Blackdeer reminds us, culture is a powerful source of strength, connection, and care. This #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we uplift the Indigenous leaders, healers, and community members who are restoring balance, reclaiming identity, and nurturing wellness—on their own terms and rooted in who they are. Watch Dr. Blackdeer and other Native experts share their insights during our broadcast, "Member Education Sessions: Mental Health and Wellness" at the link in our bio. #MentalHealthAwareness #NativeHealing #CultureIsMedicine #GenerationalHealing #IndigenousMentalHealth #MentalHealth #NativeGiving

🌺 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month begins today. This month, and every month, Native Americans in Philanthropy stands in solidarity with our AANHPI relatives and communities. We celebrate the vast contributions, cultural richness, and interwoven histories that connect Indigenous Peoples and all of our relatives across the Pacific, Asia, and the Americas. In philanthropy and beyond, we recognize the deep legacy of resistance, creativity, and kinship that has shaped and strengthened our movements for justice. As we honor this month, we recommit to collective liberation, shared storytelling, and building a future where all Indigenous and AANHPI communities thrive. #AANHPI #AAPIHeritageMonth #AANHPIHeritageMonth #AAPI #IndigenousSolidarity #OurSharedHeritage #PacificIslander #Indigenous #Native #NativeAmerican #RacialSolidarity #Philanthropy #NativePhilanthropy #NativeHawaiian #API #NativeGiving
