Just before last Thanksgiving, @j9vs called me and asked if I could travel to Mexico the next day to shoot some stills of Guillermo del Toro directing a commercial for Patron Tequila. Of course I moved everything on my calendar to make it work and I’m so glad I did! It was an incredible time with an amazing team and Guillermo del Toro, his DP Guillermo Navarro, Lighting Wizard David Lee, and all of the people from Native Content, Story:, and the entire cast and crew could not have been nicer, and Patron could not have been cooler and more generous to us. The spot is called The Perfect Pour if you want to check it out. And it features some pretty awesome mocap skeletons - I mean it’s Guillermo del Toro for crying out loud 💀💀💀 @gdtreal @patron @nativecontent

In my career I’ve really been blessed to work with some great people and this team of director Iqbal Ahmed and producer Brendan Kling are genuinely in that fold. It was an absolute pleasure to travel half way around the world to create images with these two professionals who exude a calm, cool and collected confidence and frankly are just a ton of fun to be around. Many thanks to Native Content and our local production crew at Gatehouse for treating us like kings, Cape Town 2026, we’ll miss you. This is work? Feeling grateful. Life is so rich.

If you’re filming in Cape Town, you’d be wise to hire these two gentlemen to make sure the lighting is done right. Rigging Gaffer, Lenny DeCambra and Maestro Gaffer Marcel Shimba, created the brilliance for this morning’s scene here in Blouberg, S.A. even better than expected. Filmmaking, as the great director John Ford once said, is a “job of work” and it’s been the highlight of my career meeting and working alongside so many talented professionals worldwide. This South African crew has proved their merit again and again.
