Last week, our Nations of Coaches staff had the honor of presenting Character Coach, Kevin Swann, at Old Dominion University with the 2025-2026 Herman Robinson Character Coach of the Year Award!
This award honors the legacy of Herman Robinson, a dedicated character coach, and highlights leaders who impact student-athletes beyond the field. Kevin, who is also a full-time pastor, is an outstanding mentor to the young men on the Old Dominion men’s basketball team and works with incredible heart to help build character and a foundation of faith in their lives.

James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, didn’t create the game just for competition. His vision was deeper, to “win men for the Master through the gym.”
Somewhere along the way, the pressure to perform began to overshadow the purpose.
That’s why Nations of Coaches exists. Founded by Jim Haney, Nations of Coaches was built on the belief that the game could be more, that by supporting and walking alongside coaches, we could help restore what basketball was always meant to be.
We believe in returning the game to its original design,
a platform for impact, discipleship, and lasting legacy.
Because when coaches are supported, encouraged, and grounded in truth…they don’t just build winning teams,
they shape lives.
