📍 The King's Head, Galway 🐮 Creaminess: 9/10 📈 Fish to liquid ratio: 8/10 🐟 Fish quality: 8.5/10 🍲 Portion size: 10/10 🦪 Shellfish?: No 🍞 Bread: Sweet homemade wheaten bread 💲 Price: €12.50 ⭐ Overall rating: 4.4/5 Happy New year from all of us at The NCI 🎉 We started off the year by gathering with some friends in the heart of Galway Town and celebrating with a top notch bowl served by the friendly staff at @thekingsheadgalway 👑 This dill-forward, well balanced bowl combined perfectly cooked fish with hearty vegetables to create a feast for the senses! ☺️ The head chef Brendan Keane uses a 'whole catch' approach, utilising the extra cuts from their prime fish plates. This approach makes for a fresh, delicious and ecologically sustainable meal! It's no wonder The Kings Head won the @cullyandsully SOUPerb award for sustainability. It was an honour to sample the award winning chowder on this crisp new year's afternoon🎖️ We're looking forward to a fish-filled 2026. As always, we're accepting submissions. Let us know if you spot a tasty bowl! 💗💗💗

📍 The Bridge 1859, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 🐮 Creaminess: 9/10 📈 Fish to liquid ratio: 7/10 🐟 Fish quality: 8/10 🍲 Portion size: 8/10 🦪 Shellfish?: No 🍞 Bread: Wheaten (2 slices) 6/10 💲 Price: €10.50 ⭐ Overall rating: 4.5 With the dregs of Storm Claudia beating at the windows, this buttery bowl blew us away!  @thebridge1859 has an extensive menu of high-end pub grub that had us eyeing up every plate that came out of the kitchen, but of course, we went for the chowder 😌 Drizzled with chive oil and topped with parsley, this intensely creamy and almost overwhelmingly buttery chowder not only looked spectacular, but was delicious from start to finish.  The bar also has a great selection of local craft ales and stouts. You could spend a whole afternoon in this cosy spot! While the storm has passed us by, this chowder definitely has not! We'll definitely be back for more 😋

📍Langton’s, Kilkenny 🐮 Creaminess: 9/10 📈 Fish to liquid ratio: 9/10 🐟 Fish quality: 6/10 🍲 Portion size: 9/10 🦪 Shellfish?: Unsure. Didn’t check allergen list 🍞 Bread: Served with homemade brown bread topped with sunflower seeds. 💲 Price: €8.50 ⭐ Overall rating: 3.75/5 A hearty bowl of chowder for a quick pit stop lunch served with some really tasty (if a little bit hard) homemade brown bread topped with sunflower seeds. Couldn’t identify the fish contained was cut up very small. Some carrots and chives added. Tasty and can’t complain for the price! Thanks Maria for the submission 💞

📍 O’Neill’s, Suffolk Street, Dublin 🐮 Creaminess: 8/10 📈 Fish to liquid ratio: 8/10 🐟 Fish quality: 8/10 🍲 Portion size: 8/10 🦐 Shellfish?: YES 🍞 Served with: Brown bread 6/10 💲 Price: €11.95 ⭐ Overall rating: 4/5 This city centre chowder has our mouths watering! A restrained use of cream allowed the stock to do the talking, with so much smoked haddock, salmon and mussels that it’s nearly drifting into stew territory! To finish it off they’ve thrown on mussels and bonus prawns, which makes it feel a bit special for a pub bowl. Brown bread was a touch on the dense side and the dill garnish was slightly wilted, but overall it’s a very handsome, very full chowder right off Grafton Street Thanks to Naoise for the submission! 📍 Matt The Thresher, Dublin 2 🐮 Creaminess: 7/10 📈 Fish to liquid ratio: 7/10 🐟 Fish quality: 9/10 🍲 Portion size: 8/10 🦪 Shellfish?: Yes (no shell) 🍞 Bread: Homemade wheaten 7/10 💲 Price: €12.95 ⭐ Overall rating: 4.1 Did you miss us?? After a short hiatus and a forgotten password, we are back! To celebrate our return, we treated ourselves to a bowl at the stylish @threshersdublin on a crisp October afternoon. This upmarket spot boasts an impressive selection of fresh-caught Irish fish and other assorted yummies! At first glance, we thought this one looked quite... soupy? However it exhibited all the characteristics of a quality chowder; a generous portion of fresh fish, a creamy texture and a feeling of comfort in a bowl! 😌 Special mention to the truffle fries & pepper sauce (not pictured, but eaten with gusto) It's good to be back! Know a good chowder spot? Please let us know so we can try ourselves 🦈 xoxo

Market Square, Bushmills 🐮 Creaminess: 2/10 📈 Fish to liquid ratio: 4/10 🐟 Fish quality: 7/10 🍲 Portion size: 8/10 🦪 Shellfish?: Yes 🍞 Served with: Wheaten 8/10 💲 Price: €14.50 ⭐ Overall rating: 2/5 A divisive chowder on a beautiful North Coast afternoon. Lovely setting with pleasant outdoor seating, exceptional service and a great selection of fruit ciders. Whilst others may be more partial to a rustic broth, this reviewer is fond of a creamy chowder, so this wasn't the chowder for me. The lemon wedge was a welcome addition with the generous array of seafood so fish lovers, eat your heart out!

Ted's, Achill Island. 🐮 Creaminess: 8/10 📈 Fish to liquid ratio: 5/10 🐟 Fish quality: 7/10 🍲 Portion size: 7/10 🦪 Shellfish?: No 🍞 Served with: Homemade guinness wheaten 8/10 💲 Price: €9.50 ⭐ Overall rating: 3.5/5 Nothing quite like a west coast chowder. Ted's Bar on Achill Sound went hard on the butter for this one. Accompanied by a particularly smooth pint of Guinness, this is a great spot to call into once you cross from the mainland.
