- Anthony @aynt._ came to me wanting to tattoo his entire back based on a painting I had created. This project took about a year to complete, with roughly 55 hours spread across 11 sessions. This piece is the result of Anthony’s dedication and commitment to seeing it through without rushing the process. We took it as far as we both felt it needed to go, and this is the final result. If you’ve been thinking about starting a back piece with me, feel free to get in touch and we can create something we’ll both be proud of. Made at @nathans_lounge in Echo Park, Los Angeles CA.

- “Take Me By My Hand” 26 X 19 Inches Watercolor on Paper New work on paper, Take Me By The Hand, reflects the strong influence music has within my studio practice. While working, music plays continuously, often through curated playlists that help fuel a creative flow state. Many of my painting titles are drawn from lyrics heard during the process. The title Take Me By The Hand was inspired by the song “Disorder” by Joy Division, a phrase that felt fitting for the subject matter of the piece.

Some outtakes of @nathan_kostechko . Photographed on assignment for the @surfersjournal . I met Nate because he placed permanent ink in my skin (sorry mom). But we became fast friends. I suppose a shared love of surfing, tattoos, rock ‘n’ roll, art heists and skulls will do that. The more I got to know Nate, however, the more fascinating his life and his story became to me. So I pitched doing a profile piece on the handsome devil to my friends at The Surfer’s Journal. Luckily for us, it took zero convincing and I was on the next flight to LAX. Over the next few days we surfed and skated, made delicious home cooked meals and discussed life, death, art and love. All over some very strong coffee. Nate’s a thinker. And when he speaks, people listen. Not because he commands it. Far from it. But because he has lived a life worth listening to. And that life was nearly taken from him on the third night of my stay. I could write more about that, but @tonyjohnandrews penned a lovely essay on that subject in the most recent issue of The Surfer’s Journal (35.2). Go snag a copy and learn a bit more about your new favorite artist. If you’re not the reading type, book a tattoo appointment at @nathans_lounge . Maybe you’ll make a new friend. Just don’t tell your mom. Thanks for having me, Nate. I’m glad you’re still in one piece. Thanks to some screws, of course. 🖤

I have an article in the most recent issue of @surfersjournal . This feels like a meaningful moment for me, both as a surfer and an artist. Being featured in a magazine I’ve followed for years is something I don’t take lightly. I don’t think people always realize how long projects like this take. This one started years ago, when a client, turned friend, @markomcinnis , brought me the opportunity. Mark is an acclaimed surf photographer based in the Pacific Northwest, known for his love of uncrowded, cold-water surf. He came down to get tattooed and shoot photos to pitch the piece. During that visit, I was in a sudden and serious car accident that left me with a severely broken hip. It put me out of commission for months and forced me to slow down in ways I wasn’t prepared for. Mark went home, submitted the work to TSJ, and the article was accepted. From there, I was connected with @tonyjohnandrews seasoned writer and contributor to TSJ, and we spent a few days together talking story. He chose to take a deeper approach rather than a standard interview, which I really appreciated. Now, a few years later, it’s all come together as a multi-page piece in a magazine I’ve long respected and looked forward to receiving in the mail. The photos in the article were taken the day before my accident, capturing a version of life that feels distant now, almost like looking into a parallel timeline. The interview reflects both where I was then and how that experience reshaped my perspective. Strangely, the issue arrived at my house on the exact date of the accident, two years later. If you’re already a reader, you’ll find it in Volume 35.2. If not, and you’re interested in a deeper look at my story, it’s out now. Thank you to TSJ, Mark, Tony, Tori, and to my family, friends, clients, and collectors. @surfersjournal @markomcinnis @tonyjohnandrews @edam @timhendricks
