Some more favorites from last weekend. Dang I’ve been good at posting! Still so many good unshared photos from previous races, maybe I’ll get around to posting some of those as well.

East Texas Showdown, first series from some of my favorites from over the weekend. The lack of rain/mud this year made things much faster than anyone expected, making it extra interesting trying to do the calculus of where to intercept racers along route.

I had such a rad time in the desert for the inaugural West Texas Showdown. Had to step up big time to cover this race and I’m just so grateful for the opportunity. I appreciate the folks so much who helped make it happen - it’s been a dream to cover a bikepacking endurance race, especially one as rugged as this. Time to slowly roll out some of my favorites.

8 months ago I lined up for my first ultra endurance race at the East Texas Showdown. After 48 hours of digging deep, I made it back to the finish line, but 60 miles short of the race route, after a near 24 hour straight push. I was physically destroyed, but happy with my effort, and realized that maybe this sport that I admire so much maybe isn’t for me (on the athletic side.) that being said, I love the endurance/gravel cyclist community, the energy of an endurance race, the adventure, self reliance, and am so inspired by the athletes and the story tellers that capture the moments along the way. That’s why I’m so stoked to be able to be on the media team for the Central Texas Showdown a few weeks ago, and now for the West Texas Showdown this weekend. I get to engage with all the parts of this sport I love, have my own adventure, and hopefully tell meaningful stories of the events that transpire. So ready to head out to west Texas and see how these riders will fare on this gnarly course from @bikesordeath *photos from my time on course for Central Texas Showdown

A recent little plant stand I made with some leftover maple and mesquite that’s been laying around the house. I’m working with very rudimentary tools and space here, so the legs were hand carved with a knife, wood was cut with a Japanese hand saw (after being partially processed already), mortises drilled out with the biggest drill bit I had, and everything sanded down by hand. Wedges were hammered in using the same piece of scrap wood I saw on on my living room floor. I need to make a proper work station.
