🟠MARTY SUPREME🟠
No words to properly express how joyous it was to DREAM BIG and produce + mix + perform on such a crazy and kinetic score for such a crazy and kinetic film. Had an absolute blast dousing these pieces in gallons of synths, layer upon layer of hyper-80s drum and mallet programming, and the most sax I’ve played since high school jazz band.
@eccopn so proud to be your co-pilot and can’t think of a bigger exclamation point to throw onto the end of this already insane year. COMPOSER SUPREME!
MASSIVE shout-out to orchestrator/conductor supreme @telefontelaviv this score would be half of what it is without you!!
And an insane privilege to mix this at @electricladystudios thank you for letting us push our music over the finish line under your legendary roof (special thanks to asst. engineer supreme @austinmchristy )
So many more people to thank, without whom this score would have been impossible to make- hopefully you know who you are. But I would be insanely remiss to not extend my deepest possible gratitude to Mitz. Thank you for letting me dream big.
TRANQUILIZER
Album produced by @eccopn and myself.
Co-wrote tracks 3,4,9,11,12,13,15.
Mixed with Ableton, cassette decks, and 1/4” tape.
This music came together so naturally, almost an exercise in chance vs. precision - leaning on intuition and getting tactical only when really necessary. The skeleton of a big chunk of the record resulted from a handful of intensely fruitful late-evening jams using some very simple two-man systems we “built.” Like Frippertronics but IDM!
After that there was a really clear roadmap, and the missing pieces needed to make the world of Tranquilizer feel inhabited got written. Further jams we then jammed on top of old jams, and those combined jams were jammed over different jams, until there was a rich tapestry of jams and it was hard to tell where one jam started and another jam stopped. Arranging and lacing everything up with Dan’s trusty sample CDs and new age cassettes, our tape goo, and nasty shreds took a few months, in fits and starts, and the album was done.
Very proud of these songs and the sonic world we built for them to live in.
And have to shout-out @pole_stefanbetke@scapemastering for the perfect masters.
Songwriting on tracks 3,5,6,16
Production on tracks 3,5,6,8,11,16
Addt’l Production on tracks 9,18,20,22
Tracks 3,5,22 co-mixed with the legend @therealmikedean
Before the year ended, had to take a second and extend humongous gratitude to @theweeknd and @eccopn for letting me ride along on this insane record. Every day spent chipping away at these tunes was a thrill 🙏🏼
And big love to the MWA crew (@onlysageskolfield , @tommyrush , @seansolymar ), @cirkut , @shinxdiggy , and @telefontelaviv ❤️
Tomorrow’s here 🌅
A privilege to contribute additional music + production + score mixing to this heady picture.
And thx @onlysageskolfield for snagging the video 🫂
Owe much to Steve and Electrical Audio.
He showed us all how to spend one’s life in service of art. He was profoundly generous in his service. Eternal role model. “Requiescat” 💔
Contributed production/writing/mixing across the album. Watched this record morph from NG3 into Again over many months. Even strummed the old six string for the first time in years on Krumville and Axis.
Thanks Dan and everyone else that helped make OPN LP10 possible.
