Today marks Ronan’s 7th birthday — another year full of joy, love, curiosity, and real growth. The jump from 6 has been huge, especially in how well he communicates his feelings. One of his teachers recently told me that “Ronan cares deeply about his friends” and has a “keen sense of empathy,” and there’s genuinely no trait I’m prouder of in my son.
He’s become more aware of life, death, and the bigger questions kids eventually face. He constantly checks in on family members — especially Mimi — and asks how everyone is doing. We’ve built a fun tradition of movie nights, and in true Anglin fashion, he’s crushing classic franchises that are probably a bit too old for him. Thankfully, he loves Indiana Jones, which would’ve been a dealbreaker if he didn’t 🤣
This fall he tried three sports, and baseball and soccer seem to have stuck. He’s been diligent about practicing, focusing, and pushing himself even after long weeks. We’ve also been reading way more — he loves picking books on Hoopla and switching between his iPad and the growing pile of paperbacks he’s collected. And like most kids his age, he’s deep into Roblox and Minecraft right now.
I’d be lying if I said this year has been easy, but I’m certain that if you asked Ronan, he’d say it’s been “the best year ever.” Parenting often feels like protecting your child from the rush of reality that inevitably awaits them, and every day I just try to extend that innocence a little longer so his smile can shine from here back to Boston.
Ronan is a wonderful kid, and aside from whatever imprint I’ve made, we’re both incredibly lucky to have such supportive family, friends, and community around us. Cheers to another year, my handsome prince. No one is more proud of you than I am. I love you, buddy — enjoy your day
