I boarded a plane with gratitude: Cyprus was a promise for which I had been training for months: 10K of open water at the European Aquatics.
Twice a day, I swam toward that horizon. Measured strokes, steady breath. The discipline of repetition. The small negotiations with doubt.
And then the weather turned, as it does without asking. The sea closed. The race dissolved before it could begin.
What remains is a strange stillness. A body prepared, but nowhere to go. Energy with no direction. The privilege is still there: of being here, of having trained, of having arrived. But it sits next to something else: a quiet unrest, a sentence that stops halfway.
Sometimes the finish line is simply removed.

Bittersweet trip to Protaras 🇨🇾 I was so ready and excited to swim my first 10K out at sea! Due to the weather conditions the organization decided to cancel the race. It feels weird to work towards a race and then it’s over before you even touched the sea. So it feels a little bit unfulfilled. Thank you all for the massive support though! Now one week off to reset and then we go again!
