NARRATIVEFORMS ( @narrativeforms )is a multidisciplinary studio exploring how curated environments, layered histories, fading industrial edges, and improvised urban systems shape everyday experience.
Through photography, objects, and spatial studies, it draws from the hyper-curated nature of Singapore’s greenery, the disappearing industrial landscapes of Defu Lane, the layered time of Oxley, and the improvised assemblies found in regulated city spaces.
Each body of work becomes an ongoing study of control, memory, decay, and adaptation across the urban condition, forming a growing archive of lived observations and material reflections.

[This is going to feel like a long breakup post]
After 4 years of zines, prints, pop up experiences, narrativeforms will be going on hiatus.
This decision has been lingering in my head for a while now. After years of continued production and hustling what started out as a curated Covid hobby, narrativeforms grew up before my eyes, more than I could ever imagine what this brand could be. My interest in things outside of architecture spurred me to start and document things i enjoy and find solace in.
After years of heart felt pursuing and holding my 'hobbies' to the highest level of curation and expectations, i guess the realities of work and life has finally caught up. Caught between the pursuit of my own interest, and the possibility of expanding commercially or making it somewhat sustainable, i guess I got lost in the plot. The thing that got me started on this path, is also the very force that buried it.
Even as I am writing this, i absolutely refuse to give up on the fruit of my labour, and I just need to find my motivation again. Hopefully by taking a break, i can be open to new experiences and opportunities, and see how narrativeforms and I can grow for the better.
Maybe i will be back in a week lol. This is not a goodbye but a see you later. 🙏
Till next time,
Shawn

NARRATIVEFORMS AT KLABF 2025
It has been a great weekend of prints and zines at KLABF, and I am glad to have been a part of the 5th installation of @klartbookfair and thank you for including me in this stellar line up. I am grateful for the wonderful hospitality, extended by the hosts, visitors, and vendors whom I had the chance to speak to. It has been a pleasure sharing about the topics that make me excited to be part of the greater self publishing community, and thanks to all who entertained my rambling.
A big thank you to R for taking care of my booth and I, and also to the organisers for a wonderfully vibrant event to look forward to. Till next time KL :)

On Craft and Curation Series: Talk and Workshop
A big thank you to @nationallibrarysg for giving me a platform to share more about my work and the process of zine making, over a weekend of talk and workshop sessions.
Participants explored different zine binding techniques and learnt a little more about the creative process behind self publishing and personalised craft. I hope the session was as enriching as it has been for me hosting, and here is to the communal spirit of zine making, increasing accessibility and visibility to an age old craft.

The inaugural Zine Day, 2025
Organised by @yourlocalnewsstand and @filmleadstoanalog
Thank you for organising such a wonderful communal event, for the love and passion for zines. It has been a great honour to be invited as a panelist, discussing the building of a photography project, and the processes that goes behind making and curation. It was really heartening to see creative zines from all over, and getting a chance to browse all the interesting and intimate topics. Till next time!

The Oddity of Oxley, 2025
@oxley_stories x @narrativeforms
Pre orders now available at narrativeforms.store/oxley-zine
Releasing 02 August 2025.
The Oxley neighborhood in the heart of Singapore is both a cultural and urban bubble of entropy, shaped over time and continuously being reformed. Beyond its aging facades, we peel back the layers of a neighborhood over a century old, uncovering traces of the past that coexist with the present.
Without the active institutional conservation of the Oxley neighbourhood, the project is thus spurred on by grassroots efforts to capture the oddities of the neighbourhood that lays hidden in plain sight; from its rich and vibrant history, to its strategic urban planning and architectural manipulation. Traces of history stacked upon new scribes of its succeeding era, découpaging time periods and allowing Oxley to become a unique instrument of retrospection.
This book series is based on Oxley Stories’ walking tours around the neighbourhood, actualising the experience of the walk into the physical format of a photo zine.
Zine Day is all about celebrating the curiosity and tenacity behind photozine-making. We’ve had over 100 submissions for our photozine exhibition (!!), and they’ll all be on display during the event. We're also hosting a panel that dives into the start of the creative process.
🗓️19th July, Saturday
⏱️1:30PM – 3:00PM
From Idea to Image: Building a Photography Project With Jonathan Liu @jonsaysrelax , Geraldine Kang @_geraldinekang , Shawn Lee @narrativeforms , and Steph Lee @stephleeimage Moderated by Benjamin Tan @filmleadstoanalog
How do you go from a vague idea to a finished photography project? This panel is all about process, research, and creative exploration.
Tickets are already sold out and we will be unable to accept walk ins during the sessions. The session will however be streamed live on Instagram.
The ritualistic step of unboxing. Curating a pleasant experience in packaging starts from the smallest of items. From its permeable package, all Photo Packs and Illustrations come wrap in a hand sewn vellum like paper, inviting users to cut at the designated point, exposing the prints and severing the logo mark.
