Imagine a place where time feels frozen in the early 1900s. On our way into the Karoo Desert, we stopped in Matjiesfontein, a tiny Victorian railway village in the middle of nowhere.
Once a grand health resort and resting place for travelers crossing the desert, it still carries that atmosphere: creaking verandas, faded colors, long corridors filled with stories. Even figures like Churchill passed through here, stopping to rest before continuing their journey.
We stayed for a night as a family, letting the stillness sink in, before heading deeper into the Karoo, on our way to Prince Albert to photograph a story for very special boutique hotel we first visited many years ago…
Georgia O‘Keeffe hat über New Mexico geschrieben, was ich in Südafrika spüre:
„Hier kann ich sein, wie ich sehe.“
Eine Woche in Südafrika und ich weiß, was mir die letzten sieben Jahre gefehlt hat. Es ist dieses Gefühl.
