✨EPISODE 1 Gill
Gill & Brett
Handel 😆
On my way to New Zealand, glad I could stop by for a visit with CS family.
✨ EPISODE 1: Gill and Her Ocean Pool ✨
I’ve always had a strong impression that Australians love getting into the water, just a quick dip or a swim, no matter the conditions.Gill is one of those people who really left an impression on me.
I remember meeting her at a meeting once. We had afternoon tea together, and the main thing I remembered was her saying that the water near where she lives, around Wollongong is very cold, but she loves it anyway.
Also, because the place name “Wollongong” sounds so memorable (something with “dragon” in Chinese), it really stuck in my mind. Two and a half years later, this trip finally gave me the chance to visit Gill and Brett.
As soon as I walked into their living room, I saw that book: the “bible” of ocean pools.
I originally thought we were just going to have coffee together, but halfway through the conversation they casually said, “Later, Gill will take you swimming.”
All the cold water preparation before this trip suddenly felt worth it. I’d been swimming in the mountain spring water in Taiwan, It felt like pure mental training. Turns out, the training paid off. Yesterday, even with cloudy skies and light wind, I could totally handle it. There were so many rock pools around Sydney that I could have explored, but in that moment just simply swim together with Gill felt genuinely happy.

I met @nancy_nezzi when she was 19, working in Starbucks. She helped me with my Chinese homework and we caught busses to remote mountain villages at weekends. Now she’s 30, same same but we drive.
