The ephemeral intervention on the chimney of the first ever Ljubljana’s power plant, a unique monument of technical heritage, is a special event for the opening of the festival: it translates SMS messages into smoke signals using the Morse code in a simple and playful way. With this, the project tackles the topic of communication, its development and use in a society.
The SOS_SMS project absurdly translates messages from the medium of modern information technology into smoke signals and thus exposes the invisible energy consumption in the mobile communications system, but it nevertheless offers its users an unusual interactive “speaking platform” for public expression. The messages are visible but thanks to the laws of nature they also visibly disappear and quickly become unclear even to those who can read the Morse code. Individuals can in this way experience how drawing attention to the consequences of the operation of modern society and changing the society for the better is not so easy as it seems. Delo povzema naslov po prvem podvodnem grafitu, ki ga je Name: izdelal pod morjem v Izoli. Raziskovanje podvodnega grafitarstva je uvod v večji umetniški projekt, ki ga Name: pripravlja pod morjem na atlantski obali ZDA. Tam so za nekaj tisoč vlakov newyorške podzemne železnice, ki so obratovali v 70-ih in 80-ih letih 20.stoletja, našli poslednje zatočišče. Z njimi so ustvarili umetni greben namenjen morskemu živalstvu in rastlinstvu, ki pa zaradi korozije počasi izginja. Kljub temu, da je zaradi svoje mladosti zamudil priložnost, da s kultnim grafitiranjem newyorških vlakov Stainless Steela oz. Redbirda opravi nenapisan, a zapovedan zrelostni izpit iz grafitarstva, se je odločil, da vlakom ne bo dal miru in bo preizkus opravil kar pod morjem. Video prikazuje umetnikovo raziskovanje podvodnega grafitarstva z razmišljanji o osebnih motivih umetnika in posegih človeka v podmorski naravni habitat. Ali bo Name: za vedno ostal začetnik (slengovsko »toy«), ker pod morjem zob časa in narave najeda rjaveče vagone. Grafitarstvo in borba proti njemu sta neločljivo povezana. Ed Koch, župan New Yorka v 80-ih letih 20. stoletja, ki je zagnal protigrafitarsko kampanjo, je na novinarsko vprašanje, ali mu bo uspelo onemogočiti grafitarje, izjavil: »Time will tell.«

Celovec lives
This year also in Klagenfurt one work from NAME: appeared. on the „Neuer Platz“, one of the main squares of the captial city of Carinthia, where you can now read the lettering „Celovec Lives“. For the public the work by NAME: is not visible, but it is there anyhow.
The added word LIVES next to a graffiti work, means that a graffiti writer died. In the graffiti subculture dead graffiti artists get a huge respect from the community. A lot of active writers are painting the names of the deceased writers after their death. As a sign of recognition they add the word LIVES next to their names.
This is the reason why NAME: also attached the word LIVES next to the Slovenian word CELOVEC (Klagenfurt). The Slovenian minority in Austria is having a huge struggle for their existence for more than a century.
In summary NAME: refers to the focus of this exhibition which tells a lot about how culture is constantly changing and how we can use culture for changing a language terminology, that was adapted in the whole world. The terminology which was created by writers in the 1970s is still used by this subculture.

On 20 October 2020, the Slovenian government has expressed its distrust of the maturity and good judgement of the Slovenian people by instituting a nationwide curfew. This repressive measure was allegedly adopted to limit the spread of COVID-19, despite the country having successfully tackled the first wave of the pandemic without it. Among some of the most high-risk citizens, the memory of the last curfew is as alive as ever; it was instituted by fascist Italy during its World War II occupation of Slovenia. The citizens of Slovenia have been under a nine-hour house arrest between the hours of 9 pm and 6 am for 113 days now. Relative to the country’s population that amounts to 2,147,355,837 hours of freedom lost in a bid to protect us from ourselves.
We are all well aware it is impossible to put a time limit on this virus. However, this does not mean that it does not spread in the workplace, factories, on construction sites, at schools, in preschools, hospitals, nursing homes, stores, at gatherings in private and public spaces. What we do know is that this haze of »health« measures is nothing but a pretence for an authoritarian government to aggressively attack, punish and terrorise the nation. These measures are accompanied by legislative changes that will remain after the current situation has passed and the consequences of which will fall on the Slovenian people.
What, then, is the true purpose of the curfew?
As a response to current government measures, on 31/12/2020 the artist known as »name:« created an intervention into public space titled CURFEW.
A 1.5×5.8m digital clock is affixed to the front of Fotopub project space (44 Tivolska Street, architect Milan Mihelič). The timer counts down the 15 hours between 6 am and 9 pm during which citizens are allowed to move freely. At 9 pm the clock stops, displaying 00:00:00 for the duration of the curfew.
