// From The Writer's Perspective //
Ambition, in cinema, especially Malayalam cinema is a tricky word. It’s not about budget, not about how many locations you hop across, not even about how “different” something looks on the surface.It’s about what the film is attempting to do with form. With storytelling grammar. With audience expectation. And that’s where Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu becomes interesting and truly shines in its ambition. It’s not always about whether the ambition is fully realised, but whether the film earns our attention by the sheer act of reaching for something beyond the ordinary. And here, it does.
Maybe that's why, yesterday, when TARANTINO (tarantino_the_movie) was announced from the same space that gave us Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu, it wasn’t felt just “another film reveal.” There was something in the framing of it. The confidence. The lack of hesitation in owning a name that instantly evokes Quentin Tarantino. And again that phrase of 'ambition' strikes you, like a flash. This talks about a certain cinematic attitude.
We’re looking at a shift in how stories can be told here. A slow movement from certainty to curiosity. And, happy to see people trusting filmmakers of our land coming up with such attempts as we know this isn’t safe filmmaking anymore. A production house declaring ambition upfront is rare and the confidence it gives for the future filmmakers to think differently will be high. Since we have an example in front, you begin to see TARANTINO not as a disconnected project, but as an extension, a magnification, and you can't blame the audience for that. Almost like this production house is asking, What if Malayalam cinema allowed itself this kind of flamboyance, and this time with more and more soul into it in terms of storytelling and performances.
Ambition,here,isn’t retrospective. You’re not saying it after watching the film. You’re feeling it at the moment of announcement. That’s rare with Malayalam Cinema. It means the film has already begun, not on screen,but in the imagination.
Let's rearrange the space of what Malayalam cinema can dare to do next.
