Binani Air Set to Begin Commercial Flights Next Monday — Nigeria’s First Woman-Owned Airline Prepares for Takeoff
A new player is about to enter Nigeria’s aviation space. Binani Air has announced that it will commence commercial operations next Monday, with initial routes covering Anambra, Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri, and Port Harcourt.
The airline secured its Air Operating Certificate (AOC) back in July 2024.
Binani Air is owned by Senator Aishatu Binani, widely regarded as the richest woman in Adamawa State and across the North East. She also owns the largest printing press in Northern Nigeria.
With Binani Air, she becomes the first woman in Nigeria to own an airline — a historic milestone and a powerful message to the girl child that dreams are valid, achievable, and worth pursuing.
In another industry first, the airline also has a female CEO — Aminatu Dahiru Chiroma, making it the country’s first airline with both a female owner and a female chief executive.
Just this week, one of the airline’s E170 aircraft completed a test flight, signaling that everything is in place for commercial takeoff next week.
A new era in Nigerian aviation is about to begin.

Abdul Samad Rabiu Buys Bombardier Global 8000, Expands BUA’s Modern Private Jet Fleet
Nigeria’s second-richest man, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has sealed a major acquisition in Dubai purchasing Bombardier’s flagship Global 8000 business jet.
The deal was concluded at BUA’s Dubai office with senior Bombardier executives, adding the ultra-long-range aircraft to the company’s already impressive lineup, which includes the Challenger 350 and Global 6500.
This makes BUA Group one of the Nigerian companies with the most modern corporate jet fleets.
The Bombardier Global 8000, priced between $78–$81 million before customization, is engineered for extraordinary performance.
It can fly non-stop from Lagos to New York or Dubai to Houston, a perfect match for BUA’s expanding operations across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
For Rabiu , whose portfolio spans BUA Cement, BUA Foods, ports, and energy , the jet represents both a strategic business asset and a marker of global corporate presence. The aircraft is powered by two Rolls-Royce engines and is the fastest civilian jet since the Concorde, reaching speeds of up to 1,161 km/h.
This purchase follows an aggressive two-year expansion by BUA Group: • $65 million investment to reconstruct Terminal B at the Rivers Port Complex, Port Harcourt • Major capacity expansions for BUA Cement in Sokoto and Edo • Double-digit revenue and profit growth driven partly by Rabiu’s push for lower cement prices • A $200 million corporate finance facility arranged with Afreximbank and the Africa Finance Corporation to power new projects
With the Global 8000 joining its fleet, BUA strengthens both its operational efficiency and its position as one of Africa’s most forward-thinking conglomerates.
