NSG Edition Autumn 2026 is here. Inside you’ll find moments spent with Christopher Zanko, Sally Anderson, and Sally Scales in their studios. Plus exhibition reviews, previews of shows ahead, and reflections from the artists we work with. NSG Edition is more than a magazine. It is a record of ideas, of artistic context, and of creative practice, made to be shared with you. Each issue is a record of where the gallery is, and where it’s going. Worth reading slowly, worth keeping. Print copies via the NSG Shop, or read free online via the link in our bio.

Now open – Sally Scales: New works. Sally Scales’s new exhibition brings together a powerful body of work shaped by Country, memory, and the enduring presence of Tjukurpa. 'This show is really special to me – it feels like I'm stepping into a whole new chapter as an artist. Each piece is an opportunity to push further experimenting with colour, movement, and texture while staying connected to where I come from. I'm looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me.' Drawing deeply from her Pitjantjatjara heritage, Scales paints with instinctive rhythm and remarkable sensitivity, translating ancestral knowledge into luminous fields of colour, movement, and form. Each work carries a profound sense of place, holding story, spirit, and connection with quiet strength. Join us for the opening celebration this Saturday 9 May, 2-4pm. All welcome, no RSVP required. @sallscales

New to the NSG Shop – Marilyn Russell’s Shellwork Boomerang and Slippers. Handcrafted by Bidjigal artist Marilyn Russell, these miniature boomerangs, slippers, and Sydney Harbour Bridges are adorned with intricate shell designs, continuing the long and celebrated tradition of La Perouse shellwork. La Perouse shellwork holds deep cultural and historical significance, passed down through generations of Aboriginal women who have sustained and evolved the tradition along the shores of Sydney. In Marilyn’s work, this legacy continues with care and precision, honouring those who came before her while ensuring its relevance for future generations. Supporting her practice is not only an investment in a unique artwork, but a meaningful contribution to the preservation of an enduring cultural tradition. Each piece is one of a kind – shell patterns, colours, and arrangements vary, reflecting both the artist’s hand and the living lineage of this practice. Available now through our online store (link in bio).

The 2026 Sulman Prize is currently on view at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, featuring works by Joan Ross. Joan is a finalist in the Sulman Prize with I Tried to Save You (2025–26). Created in acrylic on canvas, the work continues Joan’s exploration of colonial narratives, environmental fragility, and the complexities of care and responsibility. Through her distinctive use of vivid colour and symbolic imagery, Joan constructs a surreal scene that balances beauty with unease, inviting reflection on human impact and attempted acts of preservation. 📍 Art Gallery of New South Wales 📆 29 April – 16 August 2026 @wecallthisatree @artgalleryofnsw

The 2026 Archibald and Wynne Prizes are currently on view at the Art Gallery of NSW, featuring works by Natasha Walsh. Natasha is a finalist in the Archibald Prize with The mirage (self-portrait) (2026), and a finalist in the Wynne Prize with Cornucopia (2026). Rendered in oil and pigment on copper, the works continue Natasha’s exploration of perception, memory, and the natural world. In The mirage (self-portrait), reflections, layered foliage and deep ultramarine tones blur the boundaries between figure and environment, creating a portrait that feels both intimate and elusive. In Cornucopia, dense botanical forms unfold across the surface in a vivid, dreamlike landscape where interiors and gardens merge. Across both works, Natasha uses luminous colour and intricate detail to construct immersive spaces that hover between observation and imagination. 📍 Art Gallery of New South Wales 📆 29 April – 16 August 2026 @natashawalshartist @artgalleryofnsw
