[Fire @ Block 153, Simei Street 1] On 8 May 2026 at about 4:40pm, SCDF was alerted to a fire at the abovementioned location. Upon arrival, the living room of a unit on the second floor was on fire. The fire was extinguished by firefighters with a water jet. The entire living room was damaged by the fire. The rest of the unit was also affected by heat and smoke damage. Three persons had evacuated from the affected unit before SCDF’s arrival. About 10 persons were evacuated by Police and SCDF from the block as a precaution. A person from a neighbouring unit was assessed by a paramedic for smoke inhalation and conveyed to Singapore General Hospital. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire had likely originated from a power bank that was charging in the living room. To prevent such fires, the public is reminded not to leave batteries or devices charging unattended for an extended period of time, or leave it charging overnight.

[Operationalisation and Islandwide Testing of SG Alert on 10 May] In April 2026, SCDF announced the implementation of SG Alert, a mass emergency alert system that broadcasts time-sensitive emergency alerts to all mobile devices islandwide or within specific geographical zones. [International Firefighters’ Day 2026] On 4 May 2026, as International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) is observed worldwide, we take a moment to honour the sacrifices and quiet strength of firefighters and emergency medical services personnel worldwide. This morning, our SCDF frontline personnel gathered in solidarity and held a minute of silence in remembrance of our fallen comrades, within SCDF and across the world. To mark this day, red and blue IFFD ribbons were donned by the frontliners, a symbolic representation of respect and solidarity. Together, these two colours are widely recognised to represent the emergency services and main elements that firefighters work with - red for fire and blue for water. To every officer who continues to answer the call for help with courage and care, thank you. Your enduring commitment to safeguarding our communities and environment does not go unnoticed. #InternationalFirefightersDay #TheLifeSavingForce
