Trans Day of Remembrance is here and Amor Eterno is out now on YouTube (link in bio) and streaming on all platforms. Have you ever heard it drop into a cumbia? After recording the track 4 years ago, @ne_siwanawal3 @shumarikairon and I reunited this Día de los Muertos to film a video for the song, summoning our transcestors and inviting them to join us in our grief and joy. We were filmed by the incomparable @j.essmm and joined on camera by our dears @blueboypazcual @eugeniabarbuc and Jones Gutierrez. The very process of coming together was such a blessing. We felt our loved ones in the wind, in the falling leaves, in the sun kissing our skin. El Otro Mundo streaming everywhere! Whenever I play this for my students, especially the kindergartners, they yell “My parents love this song!!” 😹 bahaha I doubt their parents know of my song but here’s hoping one day it does work its way into everyone’s party playlist ✨

El Otro Mundo features the lead melody on an Andean flute called a Siku in Aymara, Antara in Quechua and Zampoña in Spanish. My abuela brought me this Siku from Perú. Playing it brings me so much peace. Hopefully it brings you a little peace this morning as the the fights for liberation rage on around our city and around the world.
