Costume design for @asia.cues for @blxckstage ✨ A very important piece of work. Guided under the theme reclamation, I was tasked to create a skin of the in-between moments of reclaiming one’s identity. The actualization that comes alive within shedding. As a designer, I have a personal fascination with noticing the intersections of cultures and theologies; especially as it pertains to one’s own culture. In this performance, Asia brings reclamation of their Black and Korean culture within a queer nonbinary body to the forefront. Bridging together cultures with inherently queer (and nonbinary) cosmologies, I dug into the crossroads of color (black and red), as well as metals/ elements (gold and bamboo). When Asia dances, they remind me of wind or taking flight. Hence tassels were verrrrry important, and harvested from fabric that was hand-dyed to a very specific shade of blood red. An alchemical experience, this piece is powerful for me and I found freedom within making it. From the music, to the movement, to the design. ❤️

A pant sample I’m working on + a chopped up unitard styled with @kodiethebrand micro kiniiii. I really appreciated how modular this look was. An outfit that morphs with you as the night unfolds. I could shed layers without having to stuff extra clothes in my bag. But was also warm enough during this transitional weather moment. No need to make extra stops to change after work. Perfection

Movement wear that evolves; transformation that’s adorned • Custom looks for @asia.cues , guided under the theme of transformation. At the heart of every KODIEcustom is a personal story being expressed, and as a designer/ friend this look called for a tender mindfulness to execute essential visions and needs: - Black to white transition: As any transition, we oftentimes don’t have any vision or foresight of what we are becoming. We may have an idea or hope, but really there’s no telling what’s on the other side. This was emulated through the final white KINI set being totally concealed underneath the original leather look. - Moments of in-between. Transformation is not instantaneous, rather something to be lived through. Asia so brilliantly wanted to be able shed these skins piece by piece. The major challenge was designing to consider how each garment would be taken off live and in motion, while simultaneously providing enough comfort and support aerially. I experimented with internal anti-slip technology which proved to be a success! Lined with eyelets and lacing, release would come from the center. • In typical Asia fashion, they constantly and consistently test the bounds of my strength and capacity (if you’ve ever had the privilege of taking a pole workshop from them then you know exactly what I’m talking about). This was my most challenging order to date, with imperfections and experimentations, and I couldn’t be more proud (of everyone involved). 🤍

KODIE, a world where the fantasy is reality💋 • Handcrafted dancewear made from upcyled materials. Pictured: The ‘RICO’ set, what once was a pink/black striped off the shoulder top, transformed into a one-of-one micro shorts + kini pairing💓 The ‘MARIE’, once upon a time a haunting pink lace long sleeve top from the thrift bins in Bologna, Italy lived on into micro kini + thong set. • Set design by @brklynnw #poleoutfit #dancewear #alternative

KODIE is a sacred design house crafting handmade adornments and immersive experiences that center transformation, pleasure, and connection. Concentrating on gender-affirming expression, KODIE commits to producing portals for people to reconnect with their bodies, their desire, and their power. • Learning how to make my own clothes was a form of taking my power back. However, I didn’t start to live in it until I started to share it with others. Through timeless collections, custom garments, and performance wear, KODIE resonates with those seeking to own their becoming. Here, experimentation is encouraged and often required, resulting in one-of-a-kind skins. 💋

Alyssa Yeboah-Kodie is a multidisciplinary fashion designer, currently based in Brooklyn, New York. Their work exposes the universal lessons of our shared humanity, often explored through the lens of the femme experience and spiritual attunement. • Would you believe that for the majority of my life, I never really considered myself a creative person? So much so, that my original trajectory was pre-med, specializing in chemistry. I was a pentathlete at Penn State for gods sakes.. Until one day, the soft certain voice I learned to ignore, got really very sad. With my body feeling consumed in flames, I did what I do best, and leapt (blindly). Every stage of my development as an artist, came by following an internal call, before I knew where it would lead. Going to FIDM, I got my “dream job” before graduating, working as a technical designer for a production company responsible for developing swimwear and lingerie for commercial and influencer brands. That experience taught me so much and equipped me with invaluable technical skill, however was truly a bandaid over a bullet hole. As a Black queer designer, I cannot conform my creativity for a business that excludes my humanity from their conversations. What I love most about my early work, is the spiritual presence pushing its way through before I knew what it meant. My tenure designing in Accra, was what I like to call - a creative birth. Like any homecoming, the gap between my spirit and my body began to close. My debut collection ‘FREE ME’, created in tandem with my cousin @poquiahboateng encouraged me to emancipate myself from the conditioning I clung to. Bold color palettes in combination with traditional kente and beaded materials, made for an assortment rooted in remembrance, playfulness, and internal freedom. Projects like ‘FREE ME’ and ‘KISSED BY MY SUNSUM’ enabled me to explore storytelling in its full form utilizing garment, sound, movement, & image. With custom soundscapes produced by @badgalbob , it became clear that fashion was never meant to stand alone for me. KODIE lives at the intersection of fashion, film, and music. @kodiethebrand ❤️

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, My design portfolio/ snippet of my life’s work I submitted for @mejimeji.co womenswear design team. Creating this actually gagged me a bit can’t even lie so I’m posting here for everyone to see. My life has taken me towards many different vocations and environments, but one thing remains constant — IM GONNA DESIGN YOU ME WE A C*NTY LIL LOOK. To the little bean of a child creating colorcoded seasonal, day-to-night collections and the ambitious adolescent catwalking in the mirror envisioning elaborate editorials and runway shows, you are not insane YOU ARE TALENTED. On a personal note, design has functioned as my vessel back home to myself. An act of my spirit, it is the crossroads for processing lived experience and ancestral memory. The pieces I create are alchemical reactions to my human experience through the lens of my feminine body. Each piece, each collection, each experiment, each upcycle, or trip to the market closed the gap between conditioning and my authentic voice. As a designer, the legacy I aim to leave behind is the profound healing and empowerment experienced through a prolific fashion universe. I am living proof that fashion as a medium for self expression, can empower individuals to reach unthinkable heights in their self-actualization. As a result, I have witnessed the spiritual transformation of individuals, myself, and communities alike, when affirmed in gender, identity, and belonging via emotional storytelling, intentional silhouette, and intuitive materials selection. All in all, this process enabled me to take a minute to honor my legacy thus far. So thank you, as I’m only getting started. TAG @mejimeji.co ❤️ P.S. To those who have supported and worked with me over the years THANK YOU. I am genuinely honored to be supported by the baddest womxn in the world (like literally). You are beautiful, spectacular and amazing and I value our collaboration more than words can describe💋
