“Synchronicity: The Sequin Effect”
This piece is all about continuous movement, shifting unison, momentum and evolving formations. The song begs for nonstop dancing, titled “Perpetuum Mobile” or perpetual motion in Latin. It is inspired by both nature and the mechanical synchronicity of a machine. Assembled as a patchwork of images - a mumurmation of birds that flip like sequins, a drop of liquid breaking surface tension, a changing grid, an inverting pyramid brainteaser, etc - it is an exploration of dancing as one seamless unit. Smooth and graceful, precise and powerful.
Twyla Marr (she/her), born and raised in Vermont, has danced since the age of seven. Beginning her training at Adams School of Dance, she continued at Smith College, earning a B.A. in Dance, with a minor in Landscape Studies. While at Smith, she was Co-Artistic Director of the student run dance company and enjoyed exploring many styles of dance and aspects of production. Since college, she has danced in various shows and groups, including DanceFest Vermont, the Vermont Opera Project and, most recently, performing and choreographing with the Marble Valley Dance Collective. In 2025, she joined the faculty of Marble City School of Dance. Twyla loves art, traveling, being in nature, working with children and laughing with friends and family.
