š DO THIS: Ten years ago, a group of likeminded producers merging alt-electronic and left-field hip-hop beats came together to form
@therabbitholelv , inspired by the then-burgeoning scene in LA. It wasnāt mainstream, but they knew they werenāt the only ones in the city searching for something different.
Co-founders Lucas Ybarra (
@lowkeylukey ), Ty Bolden (
@mayne.frame ) and Jamaal Long (
@mutemind_ ) had minimal expectations when they threw their first show at Scullery (now
@oddfellowsvegas ) but people showed up, and kept showing up as they stretched to Bunkhouse and other venues.
āThe feedback from those early shows was solidāit felt like an IYKYK kind of thing, and honestly, it still does. You either get it right away, or you stick around, vibe out, and discover something new,ā Lucas says. āBut one thingās for sureāit brought something fresh to Vegas.ā
Soon, they were adding to their roster with artists like
@lothedino ,
@itsmonro and
@weirddough and rocking Life is Beautiful, hosting after parties for Flying Lotus and taking THR on the road.
A decade in, THR is still digging deep into those sounds as they celebrate 10 years this Saturday at
@swandivelv .
Itāll be a āfull-on buffet of sound for everyoneā with THR members serving hip-hop, bass, neo-house and more, with special guests like audiovisual artist
@brettbolton and groovy Vegas outfit
@overnightcelebrityband .
Itās the culmination of everything theyāve built over the past 10 years, which saw the crew rise to ubiquity in DTLVāuntil COVID forced them to pivot online.
āPost-COVID, most of our go-to venues had shut down, making it tough to bring back the live experience,ā Lucas say. āNow, weāve finally found a new home at Swan Dive where weāve been curating the high-quality shows weāve always envisioned.ā
But the 10-year anniversary is also bittersweet: itās their last live event for now
āWeāre shifting our focus to online efforts, including our TRH Mix Series,ā he says. āThe live experience has been everything to us, but we feel itās time to step away and explore new avenues for growth and success.ā
