spring is here in all its fury. the sun joins a stellium of planets in aries today and mercury stations direct.

Today brings one of the most significant astrological events of the year! Saturn and Neptune conjoin at the very first degree of the zodiac (0° Aries), the first conjunction between the two planets since 1989.
Saturn is form, structure, gravity, time, and consequence. It represents that which is unavoidable and inescapable, what grows through consistent effort, and decays when neglected. Saturn grounds us in the here and now, and forces us to confront the present moment.
Neptune is oceanic and ineffable. It rules the realm of things that seep and shimmer, impervious to boundaries and borders. Neptune comes to us in dreams and vision, offering awe and connection to something larger than ourselves, and speaks to timelessness and yearning, sensation and spirit.
When these two planets meet, boundaries (Saturn) are dissolved (Neptune). New dreams (Neptune) ask to be acted upon (Saturn). Effort must meet the effervescent. Delusions and fantasies must give way to sustainable, sustained action.
Their conjunction in cardinal fire (Aries) suggests some kind of initiation. A need to sharpen our tools and implements. We must narrow our field of focus so that we might move from overwhelm to understanding, from complacence to competence.
Both of these planets can lead to depression and overwhelm, but sometimes we need to admit and accept the gravity of our circumstances if we want to have any hope of changing them. We must surrender (Neptune) to the reality (Saturn) of these heavy, haunting days, so that we may form and forge a new path forward…

We entered Mercury’s shadow period under the Libra New Moon on October 21st. The planet will station retrograde on November 9th in the sign of Sagittarius, and retrograde back into the sign of Scorpio later this month. This particular cycle speaks to the relationship between the bigger picture or overstory, and the more nuanced context and emotional entanglements of the understory.
Sometimes the surface or silhouette gives us all the information we need. But sometimes?
