Yesterday, representatives from Tongji University presented innovative approaches to using AI to enhance visitor experiences at Fort Jesus National Monument, following six days of on-site research. The presentations highlighted how emerging technologies can support heritage interpretation, improve visitor engagement, and contribute to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
Last week, I stood in a room and said what I've believed for years:
It is high time local foods found their rightful place on five-star hotel menus.
I was invited to speak at the inaugural #IKIAConference2026 as a thought leader in Indigenous and Traditional Knowledge Systems.
I also moderated a powerful panel on Traditional Foods, Local Cuisine, and Food Security - policymakers, practitioners, and professionals all at one table.
What I brought to that room was what Foods of Kenya has given us:
40 tribes. 103 episodes. Real people, real kitchens, real knowledge, not archived in institutions, but alive in the hands of grandmothers who know what to cook, when, and why.
Kenya's government has made it clear that the Natural Products Industry is backed by policy. The indigenous food knowledge we've been filming for years has a direct role to play in growing this economy.
The grandmother's recipe is not just culture. It is capital. 🇰🇪

Tribute to Kenyan artist, Patrick Mukabi
Photo: Mukabi (R) and his mentee @nyerere_michael_studio (L) during the launch of Nyerere's exhibition Freefall @nairobinationalmuseum .
The @museumsofkenya joins the Kenyan art community in mourning the passing of Patrick Mukabi, a remarkable artist and dedicated mentor. Beyond his own celebrated practice, Mukabi was deeply committed to supporting young artists, often walking alongside them as they prepared for and presented their exhibitions.
His presence, encouragement, and quiet generosity left a lasting mark on many careers. His vibrant figurative paintings, known for their bold colour and warmth, remain an important part of his legacy. He will be remembered not only for his art, but for the lives he uplifted.
