The Designing with Country panel discussion at the Murran First Nations Hub brought together architects and First Nations voices to reflect on the collaborative process behind creating culturally grounded architectural spaces. Held on Wadawurrung Country in Geelong and hosted by @gsc_rpf , the discussion highlighted the importance of @dawnarchitecture_ working in close consultation with a First Nations advisory group to design the elements of Murran. The resulting architectural response, completed in December 2023, provides spaces for gathering, connection, culture, and collaboration. The Murran First Nations Hub stands as a testament to the integration of First Nations knowledge and values in contemporary architectural practice. It is not only a cultural landmark but also an important example of First Nations design. The project was recognized as a finalist in the AIA Vic Awards Program 2024, and more recently won the Mark Robinson Community Award at the @ausdesignreview awards cementing its status as an innovative and meaningful addition to Wadawurrung Country.

We are thrilled to announce @dawnarchitecture_ is a 2024 Victorian Premier’s Design Awards Finalist for the design of Murran – First Nations Business, Retail and Arts Hub @murranhub @ngarrimili From Creative Victoria Press release: @creative_vic Celebrating the best and brightest Victorian design and innovation. The 2024 Victorian Premier’s Design Awards Finalists have been unveiled. The Awards shine a light on the latest world-leading ideas and innovations from Victoria’s $6 billion design industry. The Awards showcase Victoria’s leaders in design across eight award categories - architectural, communication, digital, product, fashion, service, student and design strategy. The Finalists demonstrate the many ways designers are helping to tackle critical issues in our world, with projects that support our ageing population, improve environmental reporting and address cost of living challenges to name a few. Minster for Creative Industries Colin Brooks commented, “Design influences every part of our daily lives; from where and how we work, to what we wear, how we communicate, learn, protect our environment and improve our health and wellbeing. “This incredible crop of projects demonstrates the importance of good design and its power to innovate, problem-solve and make change. “The Victorian Premier’s Design Awards showcase the very best of our design industry and celebrate the achievements of Victoria’s design professionals, and the businesses that invest in and recognise the value of good design.” Established by the Victorian Government in 1996, the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards celebrate the design businesses and practitioners across Victoria who work to improve the way we live, from the products we use to the buildings we work and live in, and the services we use.
