No matter where he happens to be on the map, Charlie Murphy stays true to the foundations that led him into the tattoo trade. While his custom flash designs certainly nod to subject matter found in traditional tattooing, it’s also fused with aesthetic tributes to the State he calls home : Pennsylvania; a state with a rich lexicon of folk art and the subcultural connections necessary to create a proper tattooer. Barn stars, “Distelfinks” (thistle finch) and symmetrical 2-D flowers are examples of imagery used in the folk art he pays tribute to . When combining them with slogans or imagery fueled by the independently-minded aspects of skateboarding and punk rock culture which he took part of, one thing is certain: there are no shortages of inspiration to fuel the -at present - 15 year “body” of work assembled by Charlie Murphy.
