“You and I share this impulse to make things tangible and real as a way to navigate all of the different conversations that are [concurrently] happening on different levels... and to see our way through the complexity of the moment we are in.”
For International Design Day 2026, hosted by @segddesign , Murmur Ring’s @ashleyraelukasik and @sypartners ’ Sue Walsh discuss the power of making: to make sense of complexity, feel a sense of personal accomplishment, and offer something tangible for other humans to interact with.
“Memory lives not in individuals alone, but in the collective act of remembering together what one generation may have lost and another reclaimed... The question becomes: What wisdom do we nurture in ourselves today that will benefit the lives of people and the world we may never meet?”
In the most recent article in our extended series with @designobserver , @breakout ’s Laura Sofia Cardozo (@laurasofia_art ) reflects on lessons learned during the 2025 Reclaiming Value: Sacred Valley Design Immersion. Combined with Cardozo’s own “Breath of Life” Immersion Framework, these insights offer designers tangible translations to positively impact our daily practices.

"What if design isn't solely about innovation, but about remembering?"
That's the question Laura Sofia Cardozo took away from Murmur Ring's Reclaiming Value immersion in Peru's Sacred Valley — and it's reshaping how she thinks about design entirely. Cardozo's work is rooted in multigenerational memory: the idea that the decisions we make today should serve communities seven generations into the future.
Her question for designers: How do we design for continuity when the systems around us are structured for fragmentation?
This is part of our ongoing series exploring design lessons from Peru's Sacred Valley. Each installment, the conversation goes deeper. What wisdom from your own community, culture, or ancestors informs the work you do? Comment or send us a DM.

Ashley Lukasik (@ashleyraelukasik ) founder and CEO of Murmur Ring (@mur.mur.ringand ), Sue Walsh, Principal of Design at SYPartners (@sypartners ) and faculty at the School of Visual Arts, explore design’s shift from producing goods to creating possibilities.
In this special conversation, they reflect on imagination, hope, and immersive experience as a provocation for designers navigating a moment shaped by AI acceleration and cultural uncertainty. Drawing from Sue’s Now & Next publication and Ashley’s global gatherings that bring creative leaders into shared physical experience, they explore how design can ground us in tangible connection while opening pathways toward a more hopeful future.
