CATCHMENT FOR 1000 WATERS | Join us for the opening this Sunday 17th May 2026 at Munyu Space from 3-8pm.
Presenting a showcase of multi-media, multi-sensorial installation works from Martha Tesfamicael, June*, Wema Wachira, Wanini Kimemiah and Fataba Kakulatombo, the exhibition concludes an experimental workshop series led by Wanini and Fataba as "Ecotonal Proxemics".
Ecotonal Proxemics is an embodied, sensorial framework for ecological thinking. Defining the ecotone as the space between our shared realities, we are interested in the close study, the proxemics, of how this touching is possible. Through collaborative experiments in workshop facilitation, artistic form, curation & exhibition-making we make known these ecotones.
‘Catchment for 1000 Waters’ is a meeting place for our discursive attempts at locating our ecotone, pathfinding in the ways of water.

The origin of the leso, also known as the kanga, traces back to the early 18thcentury when Portuguese traders introduced square kerchiefs called "lenço" to the East African coast. Over generations, the leso has evolved into a versatile and functional item, used in rituals, weddings, daily attire, and as a medium for advertising by institutions and political organizations.
Fungututi Misiko @jonmisiko occupies munyu with a response to the leso. What begun as works on improvised surfaces, but gradually expanded to encompass a deeper exploration of textile heritage; and more...

I’m going to be part of the reading of this play by @atomalinda and curated by @e_star_q under @playreading_ke this coming Saturday and Sunday.
Join us for it @munyu_space
Synopsis.
This play allows difficult situations and predicaments within an African family dynamic, to seep into the forefront as Malinda entertainingly discusses the repercussions of trauma as they occur in a Kenyan work environment. An in-depth experiential analysis of black identity ensues as 21st
Century [racist] happenings inspire the dialogue woven through the advantageous allegorical stance of global literature.
This play is to be seen and read more than once. There is lots to unpack – as the title suggests. Within the context in which the U.S.A. exhibits fanatical divisiveness today, this play provides the audience ample opportunity to reflect on which way next, to turn.

A few light installations I created as part of the showcase.
Built first from metal, shaped by hand from recycled machine parts and scrap steel. Each one carries its own character and story, long before it becomes a light fixture.
They’re made to last, solid metal, lifetime pieces.
So beyond giving light to a space, each one stands as a small sculpture… a quiet machine with its own history, now glowing in a new life. ✨
@munyu_space is closed for the weekend and you can pass by to view and purchase these and more from Tuesday next week through to Saturday... daily 10am to 6pm... Show runs to the 28th of this month.. Karibu and lovely weekend.
