Shout out stickers to @spaemspaem . This is part of a series am I still kind of doing of other street art characters I like killing my character. The German means something like - Everything comes to an end, but a sausage has two. Which I liked for the Spam theme and the killing a fictional character over and over theme.
This took way longer to finish than I would have liked. I have a really big backlog of work. It takes me longer to color than to draw but I need to draw so the drawings pile up.
The other experiment for the group show that finished on Sunday at Tenjin Station in Fukuoka.
We based work off of a word starting with the Japanese character あ. In research for the show I found the word あいかん which in English means Joy and Sorrow. I liked that and built this piece around it. I was sad in the moment I was working on these pieces. I heard recently this idea that it is good to learn how to love the entirety of your life. The Joy and the Sorrow. Because the Sorrow is just as much a part of you as the Joy, if not more. So if the piece does not feel that Joyful it’s because I am looking for the Joy in the Sorrow. If that makes any sense to anyone else.
Photos from the group show at Tenjin Station that’s up until this Sunday. My work and a few of my favorites from the show. There was a lot of good work. A lot more to see if you’re in the neighborhood
“I Love You,” piece for the group show I am participating in at Tenjin right now.
I usually only like using references for homage pieces but I used reference for this. For my usu work I don’t use references but I try to mix a bunch of different styles that I’ve already internalized by copying references. So I’ve been meaning to make it part of my practice to work with more references in order to broaden what I’ve internalized.
For this piece I drew it right on the tablet rather than on paper first. I colored it in photoshop and procreate and printed a bunch of copies on different paper and then colored those analog. Watercolor and crayon. Then I made a rip collage with the different versions and coated the whole thing in epoxy.
Ink drawing colored in photoshop.
I miss drawing women. I used to almost exclusively draw women until the MumbleJinx project took a clearer shape. It’s my goal this year to get them back into the rotation.
