Long Post 🥹✨ : 66 years ago today, four freshmen from North Carolina A&T State University sat down at a whites-only lunch counter at Woolworth’s Greensboro in 1960. They didn’t move, and they sparked a movement. First and foremost, thank you @q.will_filmdirector for allowing me to be a part of this incredible team. Thank you for allowing me in THOSE rooms . Seeing this from concept to casting, to now seeing more trailers come to life. We are truly creating something special. This is a story that needs to be told! The way you center Black women in this narrative is powerful, intentional, and deeply inspiring. This project is personal. My parents are Aggies. My aunt is an Aggie. And my grandmother, who was a freshman in 1960 at a nearby HBCU, St. Aug, helped integrate movie theaters in Durham, marched, and fought for change. So the women and men we’re telling this story about are truly my ancestors. This is legacy. And it’s beautiful. To the entire team, y’all are phenomenal. We pulled up in the middle of a snowstorm and still got it done. That’s purpose. That’s history. Wow, where do I start? @ncatsuab first and foremost, thank you to the organization. Thank you to my advisor Mr. Tyler and our entire Eboard for trusting me and giving me space to grow. Coming in as an intern, I never thought I’d host 10+ events… but here we are. Being one of the first women MCs to touch A&T means everything to me. Stepping on that stage, I knew I wasn’t just hosting events, I was shifting the narrative and creating space for women to be seen, heard, and celebrated in a role that hasn’t always been ours. Every time I grabbed that mic, I carried confidence, energy, and purpose not just for myself, but for every girl watching who sees herself up there next. This is bigger than me, it’s about opening doors, setting a new standard, and leaving something behind that others can build on. @kendal.ryannn you kicked this whole MC journey off for me. Still smiling thinking about my experience at the National Association for Campus Activities @thenaca Conference in Columbus, Ohio with my organization, the Student University Activities Board (@ncatsuab ) at North Carolina A&T State University. Truly one of those experiences that reminds me of why I do what I do! From sessions on artist booking, major event execution, budgeting, marketing, and production logistics to conversations about breaking into the entertainment industry, every moment felt like real world preparation for the work I am passionate about. Huge shoutout to presenters like Jeff Hyman and the Degy Entertainment team, Jolene Chevalier , Brett Pasternak , Adam Tobey, Karli Leinweaver, Brynna Garza, Alysha Syed, and keynote speaker Bobby Dutton for sharing knowledge we can actually bring back to campus. What made this experience extra special for me is how it connected all sides of who I am. My Industrial and Systems Engineering mindset, my love for event production and campus programming through SUAB, and my growing journey in entrepreneurship and entertainment all came together. Seeing how strategy, logistics, creativity, and community building intersect in this industry was honestly inspiring. I am excited to bring fresh ideas, stronger connections, and new energy back to A&T as we continue creating meaningful, engaging experiences for students.
