We always have a wide selection of secondhand turntables at Multisonics starting from under $200 but today I want to feature something special that has just come out of the workshop. It is a Japanese Teac TN-400 from the 1970’s featuring a unique “Magnefloat” direct drive system where the platter is partially suspended by a magnetic field for smooth and silent rotation. Presented in a substantial timber plinth it also has a replaceable arm board which on this unit is fitted with a JVC Victor UA-5045 tone arm and a JVC Z-1S cartridge with a new stylus. From its “Electro-Touch” controls to its superb looks and sound it is a rare and impressive piece. Serviced by us and sold with warranty it will be supplied with a step down transformer for the Australian power supply $1250 We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 or by appointment at 631 High St. Thornbury #vintageaudio #vintagehifi #vinyl #recordplayer #1970s #thornbury #multisonics #vintageturntable #JVC #Teac

Philips Australia were designing some wonderful stereogram cabinets in the 1960s. This is a rare one - a Philips “Vertigram” that we’ve only had through the shop three times in ten years. The design here borrows from European designs like Sonab with radical upward firing speakers featuring a conical sound dispersal cone. This unique cabinet houses a solid-state amplifer/AM radio with auxiliary input, a turntable and dual cone speakers in gloss maple with steel legs. Serviced by us and sold with warranty $1500 We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 or by appointment at 631 High St. Thornbury in Melbourne #vintageaudio #stereogram #midcenturymodern #1960s #philips

“Dimensional Sound - Into The Space Age!” “The Navigator” from AWA is a very groovy looking tabletop modular from the late 1960s. The smallest of the “Dimensional Sound” series but sharing the same styling and internal components of the larger models it is compact without compromising quality. There is a 4 speed stacking turntable, a solid-state amplifier with auxiliary input and a pair of two way stereo speakers. Serviced and sold with warranty. $650 We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 or by appointment at 631 High St. Thornbury #recordplayer #stereogram #midcenturymodern #1960s #multisonics

This is a Kriesler “World Series” modular from around 1970. The centre unit sits on its original metal stand with plenty of record storage underneath. It houses a 4 speed stacking turntable and solid-state amplifer with AM radio and auxiliary inputs (lead supplied). There is a pair of two way ported stereo speakers in real oiled teak timber cabinets to match the main unit. Serviced and repaired by us it both looks and sounds great. $795 with warranty We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 or by appointment at 631 High St. Thornbury #vintageaudio #recordplayer #stereogram #kriesler #vinyl

Here’s another classic and highly sought after 1960’s stereogram - the GE “Scandia”. The longest and the lowest unit made in Australia it epitomises the mid-century modern style with its imposing design. The oiled “chestnut” cabinet houses a 4 speed auto-stacking turntable, a solid-state amplifier/AM radio, a cassette player and a pair of dual cone stereo speakers. Sounding and looking great the cabinet and original speaker fabric are in lovely condition and we have serviced the internal components and provide an auxiliary lead. Sold with warranty $2500 We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 or by appointment at 631 High St. Thornbury #vintageaudio #recordplayer #stereogram #midcenturymodern #1960s

A Philips “Glidomatic” - one of the classiest and best sounding of the 1960’s Australian stereograms. It’s unique and wonderful cabinet houses 6 speakers, a solid-state amplifer/AM radio and a 4 speed auto-stacking turntable. On the left hand panel there are numerous auxiliary inputs for which we supply the appropriate lead. Always popular and getting harder to find in this condition we have serviced both amplifier and turntable and are selling with a warranty. $2500 We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 or by appointment at 631 High St. Thornbury #vinyl #stereogram #33rpm #45rpm #midcenturymodern #1960s #philips

We’re pretty thrilled to have another pair of the iconic Bose 901 MkII speakers come in to the shop. When introduced in the 1970’s “Direct-Reflecting” was a radical approach to speaker design but has gone on to become an admired classic. Each cabinet has one driver facing forward and eight firing backward to bounce sound off the wall and in to the room giving an engaging and immersive soundstage. These have had a full strip back and timber refinished with Danish oil, replacement of speaker fabric and thorough test of each driver and overhaul of the essential Active Equalizer. Perched on their original tulip stands they make a bold design statement and have the classic Bose sound of the era. $2500 We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 or by appointment at 631 High St. Thornbury #vintageaudio #vintagehifi #1970s #vintagespeakers #bose
