Hello!!! Welcome to Muda Paint. My name’s Bermuda (hence the name) and I’ve been painting for a while. Sometimes it’s to express myself, sometimes it’s to learn a new technique, and other times it’s simply due to the joy of creating. I’ve been in a few exhibitions, art shows, and art events around the state of New Jersey. I’m so happy to have you here and I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it. Muda’s a little piece of my heart and I’m glad to share it with you all. For any inquiries about commissions, art purchase or anything else, feel free to send me a DM or email me @mudapaint_ !!re_email!!_gmail.com.
On The Precipice of Change alludes to that weird in between, the fear of letting go of the old, but the excitement to embrace the new. I think the paradox of emotions comes from wanting to control what the new brings, and being afraid that it won’t be as good as the old. During those times, it’s important to understand that nostalgia can be a liar and what’s on the horizon offers a chance for growth. The painting depicts a woman floating mid-air holding the full moon while everything is flipped, illustrating the chaos that we feel while experiencing change. There is chaos, but everything we know is still there, just rearranged. It reminds us that we have more power than we realize, we have the power to master our emotions to welcome this change despite the fear it may bring.
Almost every stage of our lives are marked by an ongoing change that we have no power over. It comes at the worst time, a rude awakening. You can either surrender or fight back, but there’s no winning against the power of time. The uncomfortable aspect of change is that it doesn’t happen all at once, so in between, there’s this weird feeling where you’re hanging on to the old while trying to embrace the new. It is reminiscent of that weird time in between christmas and new years. So much that was just celebrated and felt, but so much still to come, and in between, just a vastness of joy and confusion, a paradox of emotions that can only be accepted as is.
The Phases of Growth illustrates a woman in bed in the vastness of the night, wrapped in a blanket and observing the different aspects of her life at different phases. She feels uneasy, but not worried because she understands that everything will fall into place. She’s uneasy because grappling with that idea can be gut wrenching, but she chooses to envelop herself in self-compassion and comfort to allow for an easier acceptance of her phases.
Let me hold your hands when I tell you this, ‘growth isn’t linear.’ I know! No one held my hands when they told me, so trust me, I understand how frustrating this is, but at least we’re growing. I think growing up, we all had this idea of what being an adult would be like, we had plan A, which was followed by plan B and then plan C, etc. As we got older, at least for me, I began to realize the alphabet doesn’t necessarily need to be in that order, but we’ve just been taught it that way so we ran along with it. It’s been difficult to come to terms with, but nothing will be linear, no matter how much you try to control it, especially if you try to control it. There’s beauty in surrendering to how our lives unfold, and embracing it allows for an easier and more enjoyable time.
The Drag of Releasing depicts a woman walking through waist deep water trying to get to a shallow end symbolizing that she’s letting go. There’s still a bit longer to go before she hits the shallow water. She is surrounded by flowers and the reflection of the moon illustrating that there’s beauty to appreciate in the process of releasing. The moon keeps her company until she makes the journey to the shallow end where she’ll look back once more before finally actually letting go for the 49th time. Then, the deep end will have just been a memory that she once cherished.
At some point in our lives, we’ve tried to let go of something we knew was no longer good for us, or was simply not meant to follow us into the next chapter. And despite this knowledge, it didn’t make it any easier to let go of it. We practiced rituals, made promises, made up our minds for good…for the 47th time; but somehow, it lingered, like the taste of cough syrup on our tastebuds during a cold. But don’t blame yourself if you find yourself letting go for the 48th time, our brains find comfort in the familiar. It’ll happen, just get back to yourself and soon enough that piece of you will begin to detach itself from what it no longer recognizes.
Since November of last year, I've been working on this series, and it's finally finished!!! The Moon Series focuses on a theme of self-analysis and the growth that follows. All 4 pieces include the moon to symbolize the cyclical pattern of growth. This series includes "The Process of Curiosity," "The Drag of Releasing," "The Phases of Growth," and "On the Precipice of Change."
I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing the growth within while creating these pieces. It's been said "the things you do do things to you," and creating art definitely has an impact on you.
