OPENING SATURDAY | NEW GROUND | APYACC EMERGING ARTISTS ‘New Ground’ brings together a new generation of APY artists whose practices move fluidly between inherited cultural knowledge and contemporary visual language. Curated by Guest Curator Tiarnie Edwards, the exhibition centres artists who are expanding and reinterpreting how Country, community and story can be expressed today - across painting and ceramics. “New Ground focuses its presence on the perspectives of young Indigenous artists who embody the stories and knowledges of their Elders, communities, and culture as well as carving contemporary ways of presenting Country to the world.”
— Guest Curator Tiarnie Edwards Featuring artists from Tjala Arts, APY Art Centre Collective, Port Augusta Aboriginal Arts Mob and Umoona Community Art Centre. Opening Saturday 9 May, 2–4pm

UPCOMING | NEW GROUND | 7 – 30 May NEW GROUND brings together artists from the APY Lands and South Australia in an exhibition shaped by connection rather than a single narrative. Curated by Tiarnie Edwards, the presentation unfolds through a range of distinct practices, where material, gesture and colour carry knowledge, memory and lived experience. Across painting and ceramics, works move between structure and fluidity - some grounded in repetition and pattern, others shifting more openly, allowing forms to emerge and dissolve. “Country is the thread that connects all Aboriginal peoples. Through storytelling, Land and Sea anchor generations of knowledge,” - Tiarnie Edwards Featuring a new generation of emerging artists working across the APY Lands, regional South Australia and Adelaide, NEW GROUND offers a layered and evolving view into contemporary practice shaped by place. Opening Saturday 9 May, 2–4pm
On view until 30 May

Tiarnie Edwards (Ngarrindjeri) '𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘷 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩' In 'Country V Commonwealth', I hope to capture the strength and beauty of Ngarrindjeri peoples reflected in this pot and tiles that echo the colours and icons of the Coorong. Since I began working with clay it has always been about telling the stories of Blak identities and experiences, pots are vessels for stories as well as flowers and I am grateful to lend to the preservation of the legacy of the fight to protect Kumarangk. Growing up I did not get to see statues of Aboriginal peoples, of storytellers, and land protectors. But they are reflected in what we create. Woven in reeds, painted on canvas, and carved in clay. I offer this vessel as a commemoration of the sacrifice, love, and admiration for the Ngarrindjeri women who fought for Kumarangk, not only will they never be forgotten they deserve to be celebrated. – Tiarnie Edwards – Image 1, 3: Tiarnie Edwards, Ngarrindjeri, 'Country vs Commonwealth' (2025), hand-built clay, dimensions variable.
