What is this?
The aim of this project is to influence and have a lasting impact in promoting diversity within the Mountain Training qualifications and as a result within the outdoor careers sector.
The results of the diversity monitoring survey at ClimbOut over the last few years clearly showed a lack of diversity within the instructor team, across some key demographics. We believe this is a result of a lack of diversity present within the relevant Mountain Training qualifications, e.g. across gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.
Recognising the importance of addressing this issue, we have partnered with Plas y Brenin and Mountain Training to organise a week at Plas y Brenin starting the 17th of August where we will deliver leadership qualifications courses.

With Spring weather at low-level, it's important not to forget there's still late lying snow on the mountain tops at this time of year 🏔
@scottishavalancheservice have produced their final reports for the season showing hazards still present in North Cairngorm and Lochaber.
If you're heading into the hills this weekend, remember to still #ThinkWINTER ❄
It's been a successful year for Winter Mountain Leader course deliver up in Scotland this year with over 185 candidates attending training and assessment courses. They all faced challenging weather conditions, high winds and avalanche problems throughout the season.
"Mountain Training Scotland would like to congratulate our new Winter Mountain Leaders - including three MTS bursary-supported candidates - on their success. We extend our thanks to all candidates, providers, and their staff for their enthusiasm, adaptability, and resilience in helping make this season a success."

Lots of folks enjoy an adventure in the hills during a long weekend - at this time of year, it's important that we still ThinkWINTER ❄🥾
🌨 Check the SAIS avalanche forecast and the weather forecast when planning, and choose a route that's suitable for the conditions, your experience and skills
🧭 If you are heading to the hills, be prepared with the right equipment, skills, and emergency procedures
🍫 This weekend, the best route might be to the sofa with an Easter egg...
As we head into the Easter long weekend, many will be looking to get out into the hills. However, winter conditions remain across the Scottish mountains, with strong winds forecast too.
Scottish Mountain Rescue Equipment Officer Mike McLaggan recently worked with @ordnancesurvey to share practical advice on staying safe in the wind - highlighting how mapping and route choice can make a big difference.
We’re so grateful for the support from partners like @mtntraining , helping us create real opportunities for our community.
Through this partnership, we’ve been able to invest in training, build skills and open up pathways for climbers to feel more confident and supported.
This is how we shape the future of climbing, one that’s inclusive, community-led and built on shared knowledge and safe spaces.
We’ve seen first-hand how powerful the right support can be and it’s why we’re committed to doing more.

These are not mountains.
These are close-up images of melanoma and sun-damaged skin, shaped by years of UV exposure in the very environments they resemble.
Sun exposure remains one of the most normalised and least challenged risks in outdoor activity.
☀️ Only 16% of outdoor organisations have a dedicated sun protection policy
☀️ Over two-thirds report sun or heat-related incidents, including sunburn and heat exhaustion
☀️ At altitude UV levels increase by approximately 10–12% for every 1,000m gained, while snow can reflect up to 80% of UV radiation, intensifying exposure to the face and eyes.
With support from the @melanomafund Sunguarding courses are being seeded across the outdoor sector through partnerships with the @mt_association (Mountain Training Association)
Stay sunsafe in the mountains. Remember regularly apply SPF factor 50+, cover up and take even more care when in high altitude and on snow.
