PROJECT UPDATE:
Gallaudet University’s Research & Innovation Hub
Our work on the Merril Learning Center project is in progress. Selective demolition is paving the way for a sustainable and innovative space that fosters collaboration and learning—preserving the building’s significance while ensuring its functionality for future generations. MTFA has collaborated closely with Gallaudet University and Fletcher Consulting, among others, to adaptively reuse this significant campus asset that will enhance the overall campus experience for students and faculty. Upper levels of the building will be removed and replaced with a welcoming, landscaped plaza and a light-filled atrium. Lower levels will undergo renovation and revitalization, creating a modern, engaging learning space. Stay tuned for more updates!

We believe great design doesn’t just shape buildings—it shapes a better future. That’s why over 50% of our active construction projects meet green building standards like U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED, EarthCraft, and GreenGlobes. And that number’s growing—90%+ of our current designs are being crafted with sustainability at the core.
From Net-Zero Ready schools like Burtonsville Elementary to energy-efficient innovations across all sectors, we’re designing buildings that give back to the planet.
Let’s keep building a greener tomorrow—together.

This new expansion, adjacent to the existing facility, adds indoor and outdoor hard courts and pickleball courts. The indoor facility includes a community room that will support community events as well as youth programs. The completed SELTC campus will be a state-of-the-art tennis destination within the District, designed to meet USTA standards and host major tournaments in addition to casual play.
