Year 4, Sem 2 Studio Project
StudioKüle is an adaptive reuse architectural design project based in the Yediküle neighbourhood in Istanbul, Türkiye. The project tackles the Yediküle gasworks remains, a very valuable and important part of Istanbul's industrial and architectural heritage. Often with adaptive reuse projects on industrial structures, the identity of the previous function and atmosphere of the site can get lost or overshadowed. However, this project makes it a point to celebrate and amplify this identity and work in tandem with it to revive the production activity that was once thriving on this same site. Focusing on conserving the remaining exterior walls of the two main hangars, and adding a roof that connects them both and adds deeper context to the space in between them. The newly proposed function to the space, an architectural design campus, acts as a bridge between Istanbul's older industrial production with a design oriented, creative production.
